Amalia Matamoros
María Amalia Matamoros Solís is a Costa Rican model and beauty pageant titleholder who won Reinas de Costa Rica 2008 and went on to represent her country in Miss World 2008 in Johannesburg, South Africa, on December 13, 2008. She was not among the fifteen semi-finalists. She began her career in 2008 when she won the Miss Teen ExpoWorld pageant. She has also competed in Miss Latin America 2008, where she was a top twelve finalist, and Miss Continente Americano 2009, where she was unplaced. On October 29, 2009, she represented Costa Rica in Reina Hispanoamericana 2009 in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, winning the Miss Photogenic title. After years of absence from beauty contests, she took part in the Miss Costa Rica 2014 pageant, where she represented Alajuela Province. Miss World 2008, the 58th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 13 December 2008 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. Originally, the pageant was going to take place in Kyiv, Ukraine, but because of the ongoing 2008 Russo-Georgian diplomatic crisis in neighbouring South Ossetia, the Miss World Organization decided to move the pageant away from Eastern Europe. 109 contestants from all over the world compete for the crown, the second highest turnout in the 59 years of the pageant. Boruca
The Boruca (also known as the Brunca or the Brunka) are the indigenous people living in Costa Rica. The tribe has about 2,660 members, most living on a reservation in the Puntarenas Province in southwestern Costa Rica, a few miles away from the Pan-American Highway following the Rio Terraba. The ancestors of the modern Boruca made up a group of chiefdoms that ruled most of Costa Rica's Pacific coast, from Quepos to what is now the Panamanian border, including the Osa Peninsula. Boruca traditionally spoke the Boruca language, which is now nearly extinct. Like their ancestors the Boruca are known for their art and craftwork, especially weaving and their distinctive painted balsa wood masks, which have become popular decorative items among Costa Ricans and tourists. Miss Grand International 2017 was the fifth edition of the Miss Grand International pageant, held on October 25, 2017 at the Vinpearl Phu Quoc Resort and Villas Convention Hall, Phú Quốc, Vietnam.
