Alyn Gorge
The Alyn Gorge is a gorge section of the River Alyn north between Loggerheads and Rhydymwyn in Wales. The west side of the valley rises gently to Moel Famau, while the east bank is along parts a cliff with evidence of tram lines and old quarry workings. The path along the edge of the gorge is well maintained, with metal bridges and barriers across sites which are popular with climbers. The character of the gorge changes at Cilcain where a small bridge crosses the watercourse at . The water sinks into the river bed a hundred metres north from this place and enters the caves Ogof Hen Ffynhonnau and Ogof Hesp Alyn, which were discovered in the 1970s after the watertable had changed due to the mine-workings earlier in the century. Marc Alyn (Alain-Marc Fécherolle), (born 18 March 1937 in Reims) is a French poet. Life He was mobilized to Algeria in 1957. He lived far from Paris, a farmhouse in Uzès, Gard. He traveled in the Middle East to the ruins of the Phoenician city of Byblos, and to Beirut, where he met the French Lebanese poet Nohad Salameh, whom he married. A member of the Scottish National Party (SNP), he was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stirling at the 2019 general election. River Alyn
The River Alyn ( cy, Afon Alun) is a tributary of the River Dee, in north-east Wales. The River Alyn rises at the southern end of the Clwydian hills and the Alyn Valley forms part of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The main town on the river is Mold, the county town of Flintshire. It lends its name to the constituencies of Alyn and Deeside in the UK Parliament and the Senedd. The River Alyn crosses the carboniferous limestone from Halkyn Mountain and north through the Loggerheads area before heading southeast, passing through Mold before reaching its confluence with the River Dee to the northeast of Wrexham. Alyn Shipton (born 24 November 1953) is an English jazz author, presenter, critic, and jazz bassist. Early life Shipton became interested in jazz in his youth and formally studied cello, but also played double bass in a school jazz band. He played both cello and bass in the West Surrey Youth Orchestra, and played in the first performance of John Dankworth's "Tom Sawyer's Saturday" commissioned for the Farnham Festival. After winning an open scholarship to read English at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, he ran the university jazz club. During that time he played with many guests who appeared there, including George Melly. The trumpeter with Melly, John Chilton, dates Melly's decision to go on the road with the Feetwarmers to their appearance with Shipton in Oxford in 1973.
