''Altered State'' is the debut record of the American progressive rock band Altered State, released August 27, 1991 on Warner Bros. Records. The album's first single, '' Step Into My Groove,'' received radio and MTV airplay along with two alternate versions of the song went to radio as well, the ''Psychedelic Mix'' and ''Psychedelic Instrumental'' recordings, produced by Ben Grosse. ''The Los Angeles Times'' hailed the album as one of the Year's Best in 1991. Bill Hard of ''The Hard Report'' dubbed the record one of the best of 1992. Jonathan David Melvoin (December 6, 1961 – July 12, 1996) was an American musician, active in the 1980s and 1990s. Early life He was the son of Constance (née Ives) and Mike Melvoin, keyboardist for The Wrecking Crew, and brother of twins Susannah and Wendy Melvoin of Prince and The Revolution. He first learned to play drums at the age of five. Career Melvoin performed with many punk bands in the 1990s, such as The Dickies. He was also a member of The Family, a Prince side project band which produced the original recording of "Nothing Compares 2 U", "Screams of Passion" and "Mutiny", and made musical contributions to many Wendy & Lisa projects, as well as to Prince and the Revolution's 1985 album ''Around the World in a Day''. Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. Guitar
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. Gregory Markel
Gregory Markel is a former Warner Bros. artist, founder of Infuse Creative, LLC, Grammy-nominated singer, and current member of alt-rock band "All In Your Head." In the early 1990s, he was a member of American rock band Altered State, as a vocalist, guitarist and songwriter. Markel is the winner of the 2016 Peace Song Award in the pop/rock category for the song, "Surrender Now." Altered State was a progressive rock band based in Huntington Beach, CA. Influenced by Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin and U2. Altered State has been described as "an inventive band with unique arrangements, melodic vocals and great harmonies." History Altered State was formed in 1990 in Huntington Beach, CA by vocalist/guitarist Gregory Markel, drummer Chip Moreland and guitarist Curtis Mathewson, previously performing together in the band Show of Hands.
