Alpine Skiing At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Men's Giant Slalom
The men's giant slalom competition of the Beijing 2022 Olympics was held on 13 February, on " Ice River" course at the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre in Yanqing District. Marco Odermatt of Switzerland won the event. Žan Kranjec of Slovenia won the silver medal, and Mathieu Faivre of France bronze. For all of them, they got their first Olympic medals. Marcel Hirscher, the 2018 champion, retired from competitions. The silver medalist, Henrik Kristoffersen, and the bronze medalist, Alexis Pinturault, qualified for the Olympics. At the 2021–22 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, six giant slalom events were held before the Olympics. Marco Odermatt was leading the ranking, followed by Manuel Feller and Kristoffersen. Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. "Off-piste" skiers—those skiing outside ski area boundaries—may employ snowmobiles, helicopters or snowcats to deliver them to the top of a slope. Back-country skiers may use specialized equipment with a free-heel mode, including 'sticky' skins on the bottoms of the skis to stop them sliding backwards during an ascent, then locking the heel and removing the skins for their descent. Marco Schwarz
Career Schwarz competed for Austria at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics in the alpine skiing and won three gold medals; in the boys' combined, the parallel mixed team event, and the boys' giant slalom. Schwarz made his World Cup debut in November 2014 at age 19. Albert Popov
Albert Popov ( bg, Алберт Попов; born 8 August 1997) is a Bulgarian alpine skier. Career Albert Popov was born in Sofia and made his debut in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in 2014, aged just 17. A few months later, he participated at the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, where he failed to finish both the slalom and giant slalom events. Popov was involved in a serious car accident on 17 November 2015, while returning from training near Sölden. He was one of two passengers in a vehicle driven by Drago Grubelnik, then head coach of the Bulgarian ski team, who was also accompanied by his assistant Mitko Hristov. All three occupants of the car were injured in the crash, with Grubelnik later dying of his wounds in a hospital in Murnau, Germany. Adam Žampa (born 13 September 1990) is a Slovakian World Cup alpine ski racer. His best result so far is the 5th place in combined at the 2014 Winter Olympics. His brother is Andreas Žampa. Erik Read (born May 31, 1991) is a Canadian World Cup alpine ski racer specializing the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, he represented Canada at two Winter Olympics and five World Championships. Career At his first World Championships in 2015 at Beaver Creek, USA, Read finished in the top thirty in giant slalom and slalom. He was also in the Nations Team Event (NTE), in which Canada won the silver medal. He competed in slalom and giant slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Tommy Ford (born March 20, 1989) is a World Cup alpine ski racer from the United States. He specializes in giant slalom and super-G; his best World Cup result to date is a first-place finish at a giant slalom event in December 2019.
