The Women's super combined competition of the 2014 Winter Paralympics was held at Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort near Krasnaya Polyana, Russia. The slalom portion of the race was held on 11 March 2014 and poor conditions pushed the Super-G portion of the race to 14 March 2014, reversing the usual order in which the two parts are contested. Paralympic Alpine Skiing
Paralympic alpine skiing is an adaptation of alpine skiing for athletes with a disability. The sport evolved from the efforts of disabled veterans in Germany and Austria during and after the Second World War. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee Sports Committee. Alpine Skiing Combined
Combined is an event in alpine ski racing. A traditional combined competition consists of one run of downhill and two runs of slalom, each discipline runs on separate days. The winner is the skier with the fastest aggregate time. (Until the 1990s, a complicated point system was used to determine placings in the combined event.) A modified version, the super combined, is a speed race (downhill or super-G) and only one run of slalom, with both portions scheduled on the same day. Allison Jones (athlete)
Allison Jones (born in Amarillo, Texas, on May 12, 1984) is a Paralympic skier and cyclist for the United States of America. She was born with the birth defect proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), which left her without a right femur. She underwent surgery at age 7 months to amputate her right foot, allowing her to more easily wear a prosthetic leg. She received her first prosthetic leg at 9 months of age. Allison moved from Amarillo, TX to Colorado Springs, CO at age 2 and a half. Education She has a mechanical engineering degree from University of Denver where she received the "Pioneer Award". Career At the 2006 Winter Paralympics she won a gold medal for slalom in the standing category. Anna Turney
Anna Turney (born 5 July 1979) is a British alpine skier. Personal history Turney was born in 1979 in Northampton. She was educated at Oundle. Turney was a promising snowboarder, until an accident on the slopes of Yamagata in Japan left her paralysed from the waist down. Skiing career While recovering in hospital from her spinal injuries, Turney decided to get back into sport after being inspired by the 2006 Winter Paralympics in Torino (Turin). The following year she took up monoskiing and in 2007 she was accepted into the British Disabled Ski Team (BDST). Within a year she made her debut for the British team when she made her GB debut at the NORAM races in Canada. The next year Turney was competing at the highest level and was selected for Great Britain the 2009 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in South Korea, finishing fourth in the giant slalom. Laurie Stephens
Laurie Stephens (born March 5, 1984) is an alpine monoskier who has spina bifida. She has won multiple medals for the United States at the Paralympics. She has also had success at the IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup. Career Laurie Stephens started skiing at age 12 on Loon Mountain in New Hampshire and then began racing 3 years later at age 15 when she became a member of Chris Devlin-Young's New England Disabled Ski Team. Andrew Bor
Andy Bor (born 14 April 1963) is an Australian former ski coach and sighted guide for visually impaired skiers. He was a coach at the 2006 Winter Paralympics in Torino, and was Melissa Perrine's guide skier at the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver and 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi. Bor became Melissa Perrine's guide in 2009. He first skied with her in competition at the IPC North America Cup in Colorado, in 2009, where the pair finished second in the super-G. As Perrine's guide skier, he competed in the downhill, super-G, super combined, giant slalom and slalom events at Vancouver. Melissa Perrine (born 21 February 1988) is a B2 classified visually impaired para-alpine skier from Australia. She has competed at the four Winter Paralympics from 2010 to 2022. At the 2015 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships, she won three gold, one silver and one bronze medals. At the 2018 Winter Paralympics, she won two bronze medals. Charlotte Evans MBE (born 29 March 1991) is a British skier, sighted guide and Paralympian. She is from Chatham in Kent, and attended Rochester Grammar School and then MidKent College. Kelly Gallagher (alpine Skier)
Kelly Gallagher MBE (born 18 May 1985), is a retired British skier and the first athlete from Northern Ireland to compete in the Winter Paralympics. Gallagher won Britain's first ever Winter Paralympic gold medal during Sochi 2014. Childhood Kelly was born on 18 May 1985 and was raised in Bangor in the north of County Down. Her father, Patrick Gallagher, was an airline pilot. She is a graduate in mathematics from the University of Bath.
