The Women's Downhill competition of the Grenoble 1968 Olympics was held at Chamrousse on Saturday, 10 February. The defending world champion was Marielle Goitschel of France, who was also the defending World Cup downhill champion and Austria's Olga Pall led the current season. Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Kiki Cutter
Christina "Kiki" Cutter (born July 24, 1949) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from the United States. She was the first American to win a World Cup event, a slalom race in Oslo, Norway, on February 25, 1968. Although Cutter competed on the World Cup circuit for less than three years, her five career victories led the U.S. alpine team for eleven years, surpassed by Phil Mahre in 1979. Nancy Catherine Greene Raine (born May 11, 1943) is a former Canadian Senator for British Columbia and an Olympian alpine skier voted as Canada's Female Athlete of the 20th Century. She was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Greene Raine won the giant slalom in Grenoble, France, in the 1968 Winter Olympics. After being appointed to the Senate in 2009, Greene Raine retired on May 11, 2018, when she reached the mandatory retirement age of 75. She is the mother of retired alpine skier Willy Raine. Florence Steurer
Florence Steurer (later ''Penz'', born 1 November 1949) is a French former alpine skier. She competed in the 1968 and 1972 Winter Olympics in the downhill, slalom, and giant slalom events and won a bronze medal in the slalom in 1972. She also finished fourth and sixth in the giant slalom, respectively. Steurer also won two world championship medals; a silver in combined in 1970 and a bronze in giant slalom in 1966. She has 27 World Cup podiums, including six in downhill, seven in giant slalom, and 14 in slalom. This includes four victories – three in slalom and one in giant slalom. Overall, she finished second in 1969 and third in 1968 and 1970. After retiring from competitions, she became director of a communication agency Duodecim.
