Alpine Skiing At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Men's Slalom
The men's slalom competition of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics was held on 22 February 2018 at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre at the Alpensia Sports Park in PyeongChang. Qualification Up to a total of 320 alpine skiers qualified across all eleven events. Athletes qualified for this event by having met the A qualification standard, which meant having 140 or less FIS Points and being ranked in the top 500 in the Olympic FIS points list or meeting the B standard, which meant 140 or less FIS points. Countries not meeting the A standard were allowed to enter a maximum of one B standard athlete per gender. The Points list takes into average the best results of athletes per discipline during the qualification period (1 July 2016 to 21 January 2018). Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. Victor Muffat-Jeandet (born 5 March 1989) is a French World Cup alpine ski racer. Career Born in Aix-les-Bains, Savoie, Muffat-Jeandet made his World Cup debut in February 2009 in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. He achieved his first podium in 2015, a runner-up finish in a super combined at Wengen, Switzerland; his first win came three years later at the same race. At the World Championships, Muffat-Jeandet finished 26th in the slalom in 2013 and 7th in the giant slalom in 2015. Mattias Hargin
Mattias Hargin, born 7 October 1985 in Stockholm, Sweden, is a Swedish former World Cup alpine ski racer. Born in Stockholm, he competed mainly in slalom, and is the younger brother of Janette Hargin (b. 1977), who also raced for Sweden. Hargin was married to Swedish alpine free-skier Matilda Rapaport, who died in an avalanche in Chile in July 2016. He finished fifth in the slalom at the 2009 World Championships and competed for Sweden at the 2010 Winter Olympics in the slalom, finishing in 14th place. In January 2011, Hargin made a strong comeback in a World Cup slalom in Zagreb to finish third. He was the last qualifier at 30th after the first run, but had the best time in the second run to attain his first World Cup podium. David Chodounsky (born June 25, 1984) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from the United States, and specialized in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom. Chodounsky competed in two Winter Olympics (2014, 2018); prior to the U.S. Ski Team, he raced for Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. Manfred Mölgg (born 3 June 1982) is an Italian former World Cup alpine ski racer. He specialized in the technical events of slalom and giant slalom.
