Alpine Skiing At The 2014 Winter Paralympics – Women's Snowboard Cross
The women's snowboard cross competition of the 2014 Winter Paralympics was held at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park near Krasnaya Polyana, Russia on 14 March 2014. It made its Winter Paralympics debut. The only classification taking part in this event were the standing athletes. Results Each athlete will race the course 3 times and their top 2 times will be added together to get the total time. Paralympic alpine skiing is an adaptation of alpine skiing for athletes with a disability. The sport evolved from the efforts of disabled veterans in Germany and Austria during and after the Second World War. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee Sports Committee. The primary equipment used includes outrigger skis, sit-skis, and mono-skis. Para-alpine skiing disciplines include the Downhill, Super-G, Giant slalom, Slalom, Super Combined and Snowboard. Para-alpine skiing classification is the classification system for para-alpine skiing designed to ensure fair competition between alpine skiers with different types of disabilities. The classifications are grouped into three general disability types: standing, blind and sitting. Joany Badenhorst
Joany Badenhorst (born 10 August 1994) is a South African-born Australian Paralympian who was selected to compete in Para-snowboard cross at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi. She would have been the first female snowboarder to represent Australia at the Winter Paralympics, but was forced to withdraw from her event after injuring her left knee on the morning of the event. In February 2018, she was selected in the Australian team to compete at the 2018 Winter Paralympics. Personal Joany Badenhorst was born on 10 August 1994 in Harrismith, South Africa. Her mother Petro is a teacher and her father Peter is an architect. She has two brothers, Garrett and Peter. She attended Harrismith Primary School. Veronica Yoko Plebani
Veronica Yoko Plebani (born 1 March 1996) is an Italian Paralympic athlete who has competed in snowboarding, paracanoeing and paratriathlon. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, in Paratriathlon, Women's PTS2, winning a bronze medal. Biography Plebani was born in Gavardo, in the province of Brescia, on 1 March 1996 and residing in Palazzolo sull'Oglio. Since childhood she has practiced numerous sports such as dance, gymnastics, athletics and snowboarding. On 27 April 2011, Plebani contracted meningitis, which she survived with the loss of the phalanges of the hands and toes. Michelle Salt (born March 5, 1985) is a Canadian Paralympic Snowboarder. She was in a life-threatening motorcycle accident June 27, 2011 that left her on life support for seven days, broke numerous bones, having to endure many surgeries and in the end, lost her right leg above the knee. Astrid Fina Paredes (born 16 October 1983 in Barcelona) is a Spanish Paralympic snowboarder. Her greatest achievement has been the silver medal of the World Cup of snowboarding.
