The women's downhill event of the 2002 Winter Olympics was held at Snowbasin on Tuesday, February 12. Carole Montillet was the surprise winner, and favorites Isolde Kostner (silver) and Renate Götschl (bronze) were the other medalists. Snowbasin
Snowbasin Resort is a ski resort in the western United States, located in Weber County, Utah, northeast of Salt Lake City, on the back (east) side of the Wasatch Range. Opened in 1939, as part of an effort by the city of Ogden to restore the Wheeler Creek watershed, it is one of the oldest continually operating ski resorts in the United States. One of the owners in the early days was Aaron Ross. Over the next fifty years Snowbasin grew, and after a large investment in lifts and snowmaking by owner Earl Holding, Snowbasin hosted the 2002 Winter Olympic alpine skiing races for downhill, combined, and super-G. Michaela Dorfmeister
Michaela Dorfmeister (born 25 March 1973) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Austria. Her specialities were both the downhill and the super-G disciplines, although she skied in and had success in giant slalom. Biography Born in Vienna, Dorfmeister is the only daughter of a butcher by trade, and lived in Vienna until she was age six. She later studied at the Schladming ski academy, which has produced many of Austria's skiing greats. Dorfmeister raced her first international season in 1983 and entered her first World Cup race in 1991 at Serre Chevalier coming 26. Her first podium place was in 1995 at the St. Anton downhill which she won. Varvara Vladimirovna Zelenskaya ( rus, Варвара Владимировна Зеленская, often transliterated as Warwara Zelenskaja; born 5 October 1972 in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky) is a retired Russian alpine ski racer. Daniela Ceccarelli (born 25 September 1975) is an Italian alpine skiing coach and former World Cup Alpine skier. In 2002, she won a surprise gold medal in the Super-G competition in Salt Lake City. Picabo Street (; born 3 April 1971) is an American former World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist. She won the super G at the 1998 Winter Olympics and the downhill at the 1996 World Championships, along with three other Olympic and World Championship medals.
