Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. Nadezhda Patrikeyeva Andreyeva (russian: Надежда Андреева née Патрикеева; 3 January 1959 – 11 August 2014) was a Russian alpine skier. She competed at the 1980 and 1984 Winter Olympics in the slalom and giant slalom with the best achievement of sixth place in the slalom in 1980. She missed the 1976 Olympics due to a serious injury in a slalom in late 1975, which resulted in a broken pelvis and concussion.
