"Almost Home" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music singer Mary Chapin Carpenter. It was released in April 1999 as the first single from her compilation album, ''Party Doll and Other Favorites''. It peaked at number 22 on the ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' Hot Country Songs chart, and is her last Top 40 country hit. Content The song is a mid-tempo about a woman who "takes stock of a life lived and comes up short". Alanna Nash is an American journalist and biographer. Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1950, Nash holds a master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and is the author of several acclaimed books. She is a 1972 graduate of Stephens College. Reggie Grimes Young Jr. (December 12, 1936 – January 17, 2019) was an American musician who was lead guitarist in the American Sound Studio house band, The Memphis Boys, and was a leading session musician. He played on various recordings with artists such as Elvis Presley, Joe Cocker, Dobie Gray, Joe Tex, Merrilee Rush, B.J. Thomas, John Prine, Dusty Springfield, Herbie Mann, J.J. John Edward Jennings (November 22, 1953 – October 16, 2015) was an American musician: a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and music producer. Career Among his credits as a producer are eight albums which he produced for Mary Chapin Carpenter, as well as releases by BeauSoleil, John Gorka, and Janis Ian. Jennings has played acoustic, electric, slide, lap, steel and baritone guitars, synthesizers, organ, piano and percussion, sung background vocals and/or produced albums for Carpenter, the Indigo Girls, the Rankin Family, Niamh Kavanagh, Cheryl Wheeler, Iris DeMent, George Jones and Robin & Linda Williams, among many others.
