Almond Valley (Scottish Parliament Constituency)
Almond Valley (Gaelic: ''Srath Amain'') is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament ( Holyrood) covering part of the council area of West Lothian. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the plurality (first past the post) method of election. It is also one of nine constituencies in the Lothian electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to the nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole. The constituency was formed for the 2011 Scottish Parliament election, and comprises much of the old Livingston constituency. It is named for the River Almond which flows through Livingston. Since being formed the seat has been held Angela Constance of the Scottish National Party, who was formerly the MSP for Livingston. The Scottish Parliament ( gd, PĂ rlamaid na h-Alba ; sco, Scots Pairlament) is the devolved, unicameral legislature of Scotland. Located in the Holyrood area of the capital city, Edinburgh, it is frequently referred to by the metonym Holyrood. East Lothian
East Lothian (; sco, East Lowden; gd, Lodainn an Ear) is one of the 32 council areas of Scotland, as well as a historic county, registration county and lieutenancy area. The county was called Haddingtonshire until 1921. In 1975, the historic county was incorporated for local government purposes into Lothian Region as East Lothian District, with some slight alterations of its boundaries. The Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994 later created East Lothian as one of 32 modern council areas. East Lothian lies south of the Firth of Forth in the eastern central Lowlands of Scotland. The City of Edinburgh Council is the local government authority for the city of Edinburgh, capital of Scotland.
