Almere'90
Holland A90 is a baseball club based in Almere, the Netherlands. The club consists of roughly 300 members and fields 20 teams that participate in KNBSB-sanctioned competitions. The club was originally established in 1982 under the name Polmerians. In 1990 the organization renamed itself BSC Almere’90 to coincide with its relocation to its current field at Fanny Blankers Koen Sportpark. Baseball
Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. The game occurs over the course of several plays, with each play generally beginning when a player on the fielding team, called the pitcher, throws a ball that a player on the batting team, called the batter, tries to hit with a bat. The objective of the offensive team (batting team) is to hit the ball into the field of play, away from the other team's players, allowing its players to run the bases, having them advance counter-clockwise around four bases to score what are called " runs". The objective of the defensive team (referred to as the fielding team) is to prevent batters from becoming runners, and to prevent runners' advance around the bases. The Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Federation ( nl, Koninklijke Nederlandse Baseball en Softball Bond, KNBSB) is the national governing body of baseball in the Netherlands. Baseball is widely played in the Netherlands but has struggled to become a major spectator sport due to the dominance of soccer, in which the Netherlands has always been one of the leading nations. School-aged children are generally enouraged to play soccer rather than baseball. The national major league in the Netherlands, the Honkbal Hoofdklasse, was established in 1922. Honkbal Hoofdklasse
The Honkbal Hoofdklasse (Dutch for ''Major League Baseball'') is the highest level of professional baseball in the Netherlands. It is an eight-team league that plays a 42-game schedule and is overseen by the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Federation (KNBSB). Games are played principally on weekends. The season runs from April to September and is followed by the playoffs among the four best teams, which culminates in the Holland Series. Both of the playoff rounds are best-of-five. The league follows a promotion and relegation system with the Eerste klasse so that the composition of both levels changes from year to year. Many of the official team nicknames contain the name of the club's corporate sponsor. The two best teams participate in the European Cup.
