Alliance Of Patriots Of Georgia
The Alliance of Patriots of Georgia ( ka, საქართველოს პატრიოტთა ალიანსი, ''Sakartvelos Patriotta Aliansi'', APG) is a political party in the republic of Georgia. It was founded in 2012 by leaders from the Resistance Movement, which opposed the government of Mikheil Saakashvili. In the 2014 local elections, it gained an aggregate vote nationwide of 4.6%, exceeding the 4% threshold required to qualify as a political party for government funding. Through party-list voting in 47 cities, it won proportional seat representation on the local councils of 30 municipalities, including Tbilisi. Emzar Kvitsiani ( ka, ემზარ კვიციანი, ; born April 25, 1961) is a former Georgian military commander and politician. He took part in the War in Abkhazia (1992–1993), forming a paramilitary group '' Monadire'' in the upper Kodori valley, guarding it from Abkhaz forces. He was mainly active in Kodori valley, which he ran ''de facto'' through his militia from 1992 to 2006. In 1999, President Eduard Shevardnadze appointed Kvitsiani to the post of President's special envoy to Kodori valley. Akaki Asatiani (Georgian: აკაკი ასათიანი; born 22 October 1953) is a Georgian politician and a former Chairman of the Supreme Council of Georgia. Konstantine "Koko" Gamsakhurdia ( ka, კონსტანტინე ოკო ამსახურდია) (born June 24, 1961) is a Georgian politician and an Iranist. He is the leader of the Tavisupleba ("Freedom") political party. Biography Konstantine Gamsakhurdia is the only son from the first marriage of Zviad Gamsakhurdia and grew up in Tbilisi. He is a namesake of his paternal grandfather, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, the leading 20th-century Georgian novelist. After the 1991-92 coup d'état against his father and the legitimate government he fled with his family to Switzerland. He lived in Dornach and worked as a translator and as a freelancer for several newspapers.
