The 2012 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 125th staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The draw for the 2012 fixtures took place on 6 October 2011. The championship began on 19 May 2012 and ended on 30 September 2012. Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny were the 2011 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final, defending champions and successfully retained their title following a 3–22 to 3–11 victory over Galway GAA, Galway in a 2012 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final, replay of the final. 1997 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1997 (known for sponsorship reasons as the Guinness Hurling Championship 1997) was the 111th staging of Ireland's premier hurling competition. Clare won the championship, beating Tipperary 0-20 to 2-13 in the final at Croke Park, Dublin. Pre-championship The 'back-door' system Since its inception in 1887 the championship had been played on a straight knock-out basis. If any team was defeated at any stage of the provincial or All-Ireland competitions it meant automatic elimination. 1998 Munster Senior Hurling Championship Final
The 1998 Munster Senior Hurling Championship Final (sponsored by Guinness) was a hurling match played on 12 July 1998 at Semple Stadium, Thurles, County Tipperary. It was contested by Clare and Waterford. The final finished in a draw with a scoreline of 1-16 for Clare, 3-10 for Waterford. Clare captained by Anthony Daly and managed by Ger Loughnane won the replay a week later on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-10. The match was shown live in Ireland as part of the Sunday Game live on RTÉ Two. In the drawn game on 12 July, Waterford struggled to keep in touch with Clare who were All-Ireland champions for two of the previous three years. Paul Flynn fired a free to the net with the match entering injury time to level the scores, Waterford had an opportunity to win it from a 100 metre free but Paul Flynn’s effort drifted wide. 2011 Ulster Senior Hurling Championship
The 2011 Ulster Senior Hurling Championship was the 66th installment of the annual Ulster Senior Hurling Championship held under the auspices of the Ulster GAA. Antrim were the defending champions and successfully claimed their tenth consecutive title, beating surprise finalists Armagh. Format The draw for the Ulster championship was seeded, and took place in a single elimination format. Antrim received a bye to the final, Monaghan to the semi-final. A county is a geographic region within Gaelic games, controlled by a county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and originally based on the 32 counties of Ireland as they were in 1884. While the administrative geography of Ireland has since changed, with several new counties created and the six that make up Northern Ireland superseded by 11 local government districts, the counties in Gaelic games have remained largely unchanged.
