Ali Baba's Tahini
Ali Baba's Tahini is a South Bend, Indiana quintet that incorporates everything from jazz and jazz fusion, fusion to Rock music, rock and avant garde. The band, which formed in 1997, made a name for themselves on the Midwest club circuit and began sharing gigs with an up-and-coming Umphrey's McGee. The original group featured bassist/vocalist Karl Engelmann, guitarist/vocalist Jake Cinninger, and drummer Steve Krojniewski. They released their debut album ''Hopi Champa'' in 1999. The album has become a sought-after collectors item since going out of print in 2002. Engelmann left the band in 1999 and was replaced by Kahlil Smylie for the album ''Limbo Boots''. The departure of Engelmann, one of the band's main songwriters and singers, was a drastic change for the band. Umphrey's McGee, sometimes stylized as UM, is an American rock band originally from South Bend, Indiana. The band experiments with many musical styles, including rock, metal, funk, jazz, blues, reggae, electronic, bluegrass, country, and folk. They have toured regularly and released several albums. Rockstars And Lawnmowers
''Rockstars and Lawnmowers'' is the third album from Ali Baba's Tahini, best known as the band Jake Cinninger was in before joining progressive rock band Umphrey's McGee. The album is the first since 1999 to feature the original lineup of Cinninger, Karl Engelmann, and Steve Krojniewski. Engelmann left the band in 1999 and the group split a year later. During the winter of 2004, Ali Baba's Tahini retreated to the North Carolina mountains to record the album over a one-week period. The recording contains a number of new songs as well as classic Ali Baba's Tahini concert songs that had yet to be recorded. It also features a song from Johnny Scroggs ("Veil"), who performs lead vocals on the track. The album was mastered by Cinninger and released a year later in 2005. Many of the new songs from the album are currently performed in concert by Umphrey's McGee and Engelmann's band Mother Vinegar. ''Limbo Boots'' is the second album from Ali Baba's Tahini, best known as the band Jake Cinninger was in before joining progressive rock band Umphrey's McGee. This is the only album to feature Kahlil Smylie on bass, who replaced founding member Karl Engelmann in 1999. With the loss of Engelmann, one of the band's main songwriters, Cinninger is mostly responsible for the album's direction, which features early versions of soon-to-be Umphrey's McGee classics like "Ringo" and "Mulche's Odyssey." Cinninger would disband Ali Baba's Tahini just months after the release of this album to join Umphrey's McGee on a permanent basis. The Hopi are Native Americans who primarily live in northeastern Arizona. Jazz Fusion
Jazz fusion (also known as jazz rock, jazz-rock fusion, or simply fusion) is a popular music genre that developed in the late 1960s when musicians combined jazz harmony and improvisation with rock music, funk, and rhythm and blues.
