Algebraic Stack
In mathematics, an algebraic stack is a vast generalization of algebraic spaces, or schemes, which are foundational for studying moduli theory. Many moduli spaces are constructed using techniques specific to algebraic stacks, such as Artin's representability theorem, which is used to construct the moduli space of pointed algebraic curves \mathcal_ and the moduli stack of elliptic curves. Originally, they were introduced by Grothendieck to keep track of automorphisms on moduli spaces, a technique which allows for treating these moduli spaces as if their underlying schemes or algebraic spaces are smooth. But, through many generalizations the notion of algebraic stacks was finally discovered by Michael Artin. Definition Motivation One of the motivating examples of an algebraic stack is to consider a groupoid scheme (R,U,s,t,m) over a fixed scheme S. For example, if R = \mu_n\times_S\mathbb^n_S (where \mu_n is the group scheme of roots of unity), U = \mathbb^n_S, s = \text_U is ...

Algebraic Space
In mathematics, algebraic spaces form a generalization of the schemes of algebraic geometry, introduced by Michael Artin for use in deformation theory. Intuitively, schemes are given by gluing together affine schemes using the Zariski topology, while algebraic spaces are given by gluing together affine schemes using the finer étale topology. Alternatively one can think of schemes as being locally isomorphic to affine schemes in the Zariski topology, while algebraic spaces are locally isomorphic to affine schemes in the étale topology. The resulting category of algebraic spaces extends the category of schemes and allows one to carry out several natural constructions that are used in the construction of moduli spaces but are not always possible in the smaller category of schemes, such as taking the quotient of a free action by a finite group (cf. the Keel–Mori theorem). Definition There are two common ways to define algebraic spaces: they can be defined as either quotients of ...

Overcategory
In mathematics, specifically category theory, an overcategory (and undercategory) is a distinguished class of categories used in multiple contexts, such as with covering spaces (espace etale). They were introduced as a mechanism for keeping track of data surrounding a fixed object X in some category \mathcal. There is a dual notion of undercategory, which is defined similarly. Definition Let \mathcal be a category and X a fixed object of \mathcalpg 59. The overcategory (also called a slice category) \mathcal/X is an associated category whose objects are pairs (A, \pi) where \pi:A \to X is a morphism in \mathcal. Then, a morphism between objects f:(A, \pi) \to (A', \pi') is given by a morphism f:A \to A' in the category \mathcal such that the following diagram commutes\begin A & \xrightarrow & A' \\ \pi\downarrow \text & \text &\text \downarrow \pi' \\ X & = & X \endThere is a dual notion called the undercategory (also called a coslice category) X/\mathcal whose objects are pai ...

Moduli Of Algebraic Curves
In algebraic geometry, a moduli space of (algebraic) curves is a geometric space (typically a scheme or an algebraic stack) whose points represent isomorphism classes of algebraic curves. It is thus a special case of a moduli space. Depending on the restrictions applied to the classes of algebraic curves considered, the corresponding moduli problem and the moduli space is different. One also distinguishes between fine and coarse moduli spaces for the same moduli problem. The most basic problem is that of moduli of smooth complete curves of a fixed genus. Over the field of complex numbers these correspond precisely to compact Riemann surfaces of the given genus, for which Bernhard Riemann proved the first results about moduli spaces, in particular their dimensions ("number of parameters on which the complex structure depends"). Moduli stacks of stable curves The moduli stack \mathcal_ classifies families of smooth projective curves, together with their isomorphisms. When g > 1 ...

Abelian Lie Algebra
In mathematics, a Lie algebra (pronounced ) is a vector space \mathfrak g together with an operation called the Lie bracket, an alternating bilinear map \mathfrak g \times \mathfrak g \rightarrow \mathfrak g, that satisfies the Jacobi identity. The Lie bracket of two vectors x and y is denoted ,y/math>. The vector space \mathfrak g together with this operation is a non-associative algebra, meaning that the Lie bracket is not necessarily associative. Lie algebras are closely related to Lie groups, which are groups that are also smooth manifolds: any Lie group gives rise to a Lie algebra, which is its tangent space at the identity. Conversely, to any finite-dimensional Lie algebra over real or complex numbers, there is a corresponding connected Lie group unique up to finite coverings (Lie's third theorem). This correspondence allows one to study the structure and classification of Lie groups in terms of Lie algebras. In physics, Lie groups appear as symmetry groups of p ...

Deformation Theory Of Line Bundles
Deformation can refer to: * Deformation (engineering), changes in an object's shape or form due to the application of a force or forces. ** Deformation (physics), such changes considered and analyzed as displacements of continuum bodies. * Deformation (meteorology), a measure of the rate at which the shapes of clouds and other fluid bodies change. * Deformation (mathematics), the study of conditions leading to slightly different solutions of mathematical equations, models and problems. * Deformation (volcanology), a measure of the rate at which the shapes of volcanoes change. * Deformation (biology), a harmful mutation or other deformation in an organism. See also * Deformity (medicine), a major difference in the shape of a body part or organ compared to its common or average shape. * Plasticity (physics), the study of the non-reversible deformation of materials subjected to forces. * Super-deformed Chibi, also known as super deformation, or S.D. is a style of caricatur ...

Moduli Space Of Stable Bundles
Modulus is the diminutive from the Latin word ''modus'' meaning measure or manner. It, or its plural moduli, may refer to the following: Physics, engineering and computing * Moduli (physics), scalar fields for which the potential energy function has continuous families of global minima * The measurement of standard pitch in the teeth of a rotating gear * Bulk modulus, a measure of compression resistance * Elastic modulus, a measure of stiffness *Shear modulus, a measure of elastic stiffness * Young's modulus, a specific elastic modulus * Modulo operation (a % b, mod(a, b), etc.), in both math and programming languages; results in remainder of a division * Casting modulus used in Chvorinov's rule. Mathematics * Modulus (modular arithmetic), base of modular arithmetic * Modulus, the absolute value of a real or complex number ( ) * Moduli space, in mathematics a geometric space whose points represent algebro-geometric objects * Conformal modulus, a measure of the size of a curv ...
