Alfred Von Arneth
Alfred Ritter von Arneth (10 July 181930 July 1897) was an Austrian historian. His principal scholarly work is a ten-volume biography of the Habsburg Empress Maria Theresa, first published in installments from 1863 to 1879 and still regarded as the standard work on the subject. Born at Vienna, he was the son of Joseph Calasanza von Arneth (1791–1863), a well-known historian and archaeologist, who wrote a history of the Austrian Empire (Vienna, 1827) and several works on numismatics and brother of Doctor Franz Hektor von Arneth (1818–1907). Life Alfred Arneth studied law, and became an official of the Austrian state archives, of which in 1868 he was appointed keeper. He was a moderate liberal in politics and a supporter of German unity. Jules Flammermont
Jules Gustave Flammermont (5 February 1852, in Chaumont-en-Vexin – 29 July 1899, in Lille) was a French historian, largely known for his writings on history of the 18th century. He studied at the École pratique des Hautes Études and École des Chartes in Paris, receiving his diploma as an archivist-palaeographer in 1878. He worked as a librarian and archivist in the town of Senlis, and afterwards served as secretary to the Duke of Aumale at the Château de Chantilly. In 1883/84 he conducted archival research in Vienna and Berlin, and in 1884 received his doctorate of letters at the Sorbonne. He successively taught classes in history at the universities of Poitiers (from 1884), Douai (from 1886) and Lille (from 1887). In 1887 he received the title of professor of history and geography of antiquity and the Middle Ages. Members Of The Frankfurt Parliament
On 18 May 1848, elected deputies of the Frankfurt National Assembly gathered in the Kaisersaal and walked solemnly to the Paulskirche to hold the first session of the new Parliament, under its chairman (by seniority) Friedrich Lang. Then, Heinrich Gagern of Wiesbaden was elected president of the parliament. The total number of sitting deputies at any given time would vary considerably during the life of the National Assembly. Sittings were regular, yet many deputies failed to appear, protested various sittings, were replaced by proxies, or removed from the sittings. In total, there were 809 deputies between 18 May 1848 and the forcible closure of the Rump Parliament on 18 June 1849. University Library in Bratislava (ULB) is the oldest library in Slovakia. It was founded in 1919 in Bratislava. Today, it is the largest and most visited library in Slovakia and it is a universal state research library. History The library was one of the first cultural and educational institutions set up in the newly founded Czecho-Slovak Republic after WWI at the territory of Slovakia to support the emerging university education, science and library system. Its origin in 1919 was closely connected with the newly founded Comenius Czecholslovak State University where the name of the university was reflected in the Library's name. The library has never become an integral part of university, although relations between the two institutions were based on collaboration and close contact. The Library keeps its name because it refers to the original close contact towards the university and at the same time reflects the universal character of its collections.
