Alfred Thomas, 1st Baron Pontypridd
Alfred Thomas, 1st Baron Pontypridd (16 September 1840 – 14 December 1927), was a Welsh Liberal Party politician, who served as MP for East Glamorganshire from 1885 until 1910, when he was elevated to the peerage as Lord Pontypridd. Background and education Thomas was born at Llwyn y Grant, Llanedeyrn, in what is now a part of Cardiff, Wales. His father was Daniel Thomas, owner of the lime kilns at Llandough and a contractor with offices in Grangetown, Cardiff). He was educated at Weston School, near Bath, but he decided not to pursue a university career to join his father's business. Early in his business career, Thomas was involved with the construction of the Rhondda Face branch of the Taff Vale Railway. Alfred Delavan Thomas (August 11, 1837 – August 8, 1896) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota. Education and career Born in Delavan, Walworth County, Wisconsin Territory (now Wisconsin), Thomas read law and graduated from Brown University in 1861. He was district attorney of Walworth County from about 1861 to 1867, and had a private practice in Delavan from 1864 to 1877, and in Fargo, Dakota Territory beginning in 1878. He was attorney for the Homestake Mining Company of Deadwood, Dakota Territory (now South Dakota) until 1882, returning to private practice in Fargo, Dakota Territory (State of North Dakota from November 2, 1889) from 1882 to 1890. Alfred Brumwell Thomas
Sir Alfred Brumwell Thomas (24 February 1868 – 22 January 1948) was an English architect who trained at Westminster School of Art and became an exponent of the Baroque Revival, a style of architecture prevalent for public buildings in the early years of the 20th century. Thomas was born in Rotherhithe, London, the son of architect Edward Thomas. In 1899, he designed the West of England Eye Infirmary building in Exeter, which is now a hotel. In 1906, he was made a fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, knighted by King Edward VII, and also designed two more public buildings: town halls in Woolwich in South East London, and in the city of Belfast. Belfast City Hall, faced with portland stone and with a copper dome and lavish marble interiors, is thought of as the finest example of Edwardian Baroque in the British Isles.
