Alf Budd (rugby Union, Born 1922)
Thomas Alfred "Alf" Budd (1 August 1922 – 8 March 1989) was a New Zealand rugby union player. A lock, Budd represented at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, for one match in each of 1946 and 1949. Both of his appearances for the All Blacks were Test matches against Australia. In the 1946 match, New Zealand captained by Fred Allen won 14-10 but in the 1949 match the All Blacks led by Johnny Smith lost 9–16. Bluff, New Zealand
Bluff ( mi, Motupōhue), previously known as Campbelltown and often referred to as "The Bluff", is a town and seaport in the Southland region, on the southern coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is the southernmost town in mainland New Zealand and, despite Slope Point and Stewart Island being further south, Bluff is colloquially used to refer to the southern extremity of the country (particularly in the phrase "from Cape Reinga to The Bluff"). Alfred Budd (22 January 1880 – 7 November 1962) was a New Zealand rugby union player. He was educated at Timaru Main School. A loose forward, Budd represented at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, for their tour of Australia in 1910. He played three matches on that tour, but did not appear in any internationals. Onerahi
Onerahi, for half a century known as Grahamtown, is a seaside suburb of Whangārei, New Zealand's northernmost city. It is the city's only seaside suburb. It is located 9 km south-east of the centre of Whangārei and is principally a peninsula in the Whangārei Harbour, which empties into the Pacific Ocean. The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage gives a translation of "long beach" for ''Onerahi''. The suburb's main feature is Whangarei Airport, located on the large flat area at the southern end of the suburb, which was built up using material from the site of a former Māori pā (fortress) just to the north. There are two concentric roads around the seaward plateau; the upper one surrounds the airport, and the lower follows the coast. The suburb is connected to Whangarei via the Onerahi Causeway. Ranfurly Shield
The Ranfurly Shield, colloquially known as the Log o' Wood, is a trophy in New Zealand's domestic rugby union competition. First played for in 1904, the Shield is based on a challenge system. The holding union must defend the shield in challenge matches, which are usually played at the shield holders home venue, and if the challenger is successful in their challenge they will become the new holder of the Shield. There is a tradition for the first challenges of a new rugby season to be played against smaller associations from the Heartland Championship Although the professional era of rugby has seen other competitions, such as the NPC and Super Rugby, detracting from the pre-eminence of the Ranfurly Shield, many used to regard it as the greatest prize in New Zealand domestic rugby .
