Alexander White (Virginia Politician)
Alexander White (1738October 9, 1804) was a distinguished early American lawyer and politician in the present-day U.S. states of Virginia and West Virginia. He served in the House of Burgesses (representing Hampshire County), the Virginia House of Delegates (representing Frederick County and later Berkeley County. During the American Revolutionary War, White facilitated the release of Quaker and Hessian civilian prisoners held by patriots. White also participated in the Virginia Ratifying Convention (in which Virginia ratified the United States Constitution in 1788) and became the northwestern Virginia district's inaugural member in the United States House of Representatives (1789 to 1793). United States President George Washington appointed White one of the commissioners responsible for the planning and construction of Washington, D.C. (1795 to 1802). Alexander White (October 16, 1816 – December 13, 1893) was an American lawyer from Alabama, who represented Alabama in the U.S Congress as a Whig (1851–53), and as a Republican (1873–75). White was born in Franklin, Tennessee. He moved to Courtland, Alabama with his family. White went to the University of Tennessee. He then served in the United States Army during the Second Seminole War. He then move to Talladega, Alabama, studied law, and was admitted to the Alabama bar in 1837. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1851 to 1853 and from 1873 to 1875. He served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. He served in the Alabama Constitutional Convention of 1865 and then served in the Alabama House of Representatives in 1872. Alexander Colwell White (December 12, 1833 – June 11, 1906) was an American teacher and lawyer from Brookville, Pennsylvania. He represented Pennsylvania in the U.S. House from 1885 to 1887. Biography Alexander C. White was born near Kittanning, Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools, and taught school. He attended the Jacksonville Institute and the Dayton Union Academy. He moved to Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, in 1860 where he studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1862, and commenced practice in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Alex White (born 3 December 1958) is an Irish lawyer and a former Labour Party politician who served as Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources from 2014 to 2016, Minister of State for Primary Care from 2012 to 2014 and Leader of the Labour Party in the Seanad 2007 to 2011. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South constituency from 2011 to 2016. He was a Senator for the Cultural and Educational Panel from 2007 to 2011. Alexander White (born June 1988) is a British shoe designer who launched his eponymous footwear line in September 2014. His collections are distributed internationally, including such retailers as Barneys New York, Lane Crawford and Level Shoe District. He attended The King's School, an independent school in Chester before going to study Design and Applied Arts at the University of Edinburgh. He later studied Footwear Design at Cordwainers' College at London College of Fashion. Before starting his own label, White gained industry experience at Giles Deacon, Erdem and Kurt Geiger. He was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland in 1898. Life He was born in Kirriemuir, Forfarshire to Janet Thomson, an unmarried girl. Janet declined to marry Alexander's father, John Whyte, who thereafter went to America. She did however give Alexander his father's surname. His mother joined the Free Church of Scotland at the Disruption of 1843. In 1848 he began an apprenticeship as a cobbler. In 1854 he took on a role as schoolteacher at Padanaram in Forfar and the following year moved to teach in Airlie.
