Alexander Robinson (Costa Rican Footballer)
Alexander Robinson Delgado (born 21 November 1988) is a Costa Rican professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Liga Nacional club Antigua. Club career Born in Tibás canton, San José Province, Robinson played youth football with Deportivo Saprissa, and made his debut with the senior team in 2008. The central defender suffered serious injuries in an automobile accident in 2010, but returned to captain the side. Robinson was originally left out of Saprissa's first team under new manager Daniel Casas, but would return in late 2012, scoring twice in a match against arch-rivals Alajuelense. On 20 December 2013, he moved abroad for the first time of his career, signing with Brazilian third division side Esporte Clube Juventude. He returned to Saprissa in summer 2014. Deportivo Saprissa
Deportivo Saprissa is a Costa Rican sports club, mostly known for its football team. The club is based in San Juan de Tibás, San José, and play their home games at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá. The team's signature colours are purple (burgundy) and white. It is the main team representing the capital, but with the distinction of being massively followed throughout the whole country and overseas. The club was founded in 1935 and has competed in the Costa Rican first division since 1949. The name of the team comes from one of the club's main founders, Ricardo Saprissa. One of the most popular nicknames for the team (''The Purple Monster'') can be traced back to 1987, when the Costa Rican newspaper '' Diario Extra'' gave the team the nickname during a derby, because of the club's enormous following. 2019–20 Liga FPD
The 2019–20 Liga FPD season, also known as Liga Promérica for sponsorship reasons, is the 99th season since its establishment. The tournament is divided into two championships, the Apertura and Clausura, each in an identical format and each contested by 12 teams. The Voit Loxus is the official match ball of the tournament. San Carlos are the defending champions, after defeating Saprissa in the Clausura 2019 tournament. Teams and Structure Changes A total of 12 teams will contest the league, including 11 sides from the 2018–19 season, one team promoted from the Liga de Ascenso. Jicaral were promoted for the first time to the Liga FPD after defeating Guanacasteca in the Liga de Ascenso final, thus replacing Carmelita in the Liga FPD. 2021 CONCACAF League
The 2021 CONCACAF League (officially the 2021 Scotiabank CONCACAF League for sponsorship purposes) was the 5th edition of the CONCACAF League, a football club competition organized by CONCACAF, the regional governing body of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Comunicaciones defeated Motagua in the final to win their first CONCACAF League title. As winners, they and the next best five teams qualifed for the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League. Alajuelense were the title holders but were eliminated by Guastatoya in the Round of 16. CONCACAF League
The CONCACAF League was an annual continental club football competition organized by CONCACAF as its second-tier continental competition. It was announced on 8 May 2017. The competition uses a knockout cup format with each round having two legs. The top six teams proceed to the CONCACAF Champions League. From 2019 to 2022, the tournament featured 22 teams, an increase from 16 in the 2017 and 2018 editions. The competition ended after the 2022 edition due to the expansion of the CONCACAF Champions League, starting with the 2024 edition. Two regional cup competitions – the Central American Cup and the Caribbean Cup – were created as qualifying competitions of the CONCACAF Champions League.
