Alex Vinatzer
Alex Vinatzer (born 22 September 1999) is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer. He specializes in slalom and has competed in two Winter Olympics, and three World Championships. Born in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Vinatzer made his World Cup debut in November 2017 and his first podium in January 2020 at Zagreb, Croatia. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships is an alpine skiing competition organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). History The inaugural world championships in alpine skiing were held in 1931. During the 1930s, the event was held annually in Europe, until interrupted by the outbreak of World War II, preventing a 1940 event. An event was held in 1941, but included competitors only from nations from the Axis powers or nations not at war with them. The results were later cancelled by the FIS in 1946 because of the limited number of participants, so they are not considered official. Following the war, the championships were connected with the Olympics for several decades. The men's overall in the 2019 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup involved 38 events in 5 disciplines: downhill (DH), Super-G (SG), giant slalom (GS), slalom (SL), and Alpine combined (AC). The International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup was the premier circuit for alpine skiing competition. The inaugural season launched in January 1967, and the season marks the 53rd consecutive year for the FIS World Cup. This season began in October 2018 in Sölden, Austria, and concluded in mid-March 2019 at the finals in Soldeu, Andorra. The biennial World Championships interrupted the tour in early February in Åre, Sweden. During the season, the most successful female skier of all time, four-time overall World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn of the United States, retired after the World Championships, at which she won a bronze medal in downhill. Snow Queen ( hr, Snježna kraljica) is a World Cup alpine ski race held in the hills of Zagreb, Croatia. The men's and women's slalom races take place on the Medvednica mountaintop Sljeme, just north of Zagreb, usually in early January. The women's race debuted in 2005 and the men's event was added three years later in 2008. Alpine skiing has been contested at every Winter Olympics since 1936, when a combined event was held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. From 1948 to 1980, the Winter Olympics also served as the World Championships in Olympic years, with separate competitions held in even-numbered non-Olympic years. Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings.
