Alex J. Walling
Alex J. Walling also known as A.J. Walling (born 1948) is a Canadian sports analyst and broadcaster. Well known for his distinctive voice and opinionated commentary, he was the Atlantic Canadian sports reporter for TSN, a position he held for nine years. He still contributes to a regular sports column for the TSN web page and is heard each weekday morning on CIOE-FM (97.5 FM). He is also the founder and former owner of CJQC-FM in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. Broadcasting career Walling's career began at the age of 17 in 1965 as a newspaper reporter in Quebec City. Corner Brook ( 2021 population: 19,333 CA 29,762) is a city located on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Corner Brook is the fifth largest settlement in Newfoundland and Labrador. Brooklyn (2021 population: 849) is a suburban community in the Region of Queens Municipality in Queens County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Located on the east bank of the Mersey River opposite Liverpool, Brooklyn was originally known as Herring Cove and was the building place of the noted privateer brig ''Rover''. The name Brooklyn was placed on the map in 1907 when the Halifax and Southwestern Railway opened between Yarmouth and Halifax. CIHF-DT (channel 8) is a television station in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, part of the Global Television Network. Owned and operated by network parent Corus Entertainment, it is a sister station to CHNB-DT in Saint John, New Brunswick. The two stations share a studio on Gottingen Street in downtown Halifax; CIHF-DT's transmitter is located on Washmill Lake Drive on the city's west side. Swift Current is the fifth largest city in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Saskatchewan. CKXX-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting from Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador on 103.9 MHz with a classic rock format branded on-air as ''97.5 K-Rock''. It is currently owned by Stingray Group. History CKXX-FM launched by the noted broadcaster Alex J. Walling on August 6, 1984 as CKWK at 1340 kHz. For the first year and a half of CKWK's existence, they tried many things to bring up listenership and broaden the appeal of its fledgling station. Many of these programs were quite successful. The Jukebox Saturday Night Party was quite popular and would attract listeners from as far away as Gander who were able to receive CKWK's 10,000-watt signal clearly at night. Paul Henderson
Paul Garnet Henderson, (born January 28, 1943) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. A left winger, Henderson played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Atlanta Flames and five in the World Hockey Association (WHA) for the Toronto Toros and Birmingham Bulls. He played over 1,000 games between the two major leagues, scoring 376 goals and 758 points. Henderson played in two NHL All-Star Games and was a member of the 1962 Memorial Cup-winning Hamilton Red Wings team as a junior. Henderson is best known for playing for Team Canada in the 1972 Summit Series against the Soviet Union. The Summit Series, Super Series 72, Canada–USSR Series (russian: Суперсерия СССР — Канада, Superseriya SSSR — Kanada), or Series of the Century (french: Série du siècle, Séries of the Century), was an eight-game ice hockey series between the Soviet Union and Canada, held in September 1972. It was the first competition between the Soviet national team and a Canadian team represented by professional players of the National Hockey League (NHL), known as ''Team Canada''.
