Aleksandr Matveyev (artist)
Aleksandr Borisovich Matveyev (russian: Александр Борисович Матвеев; 26 January 1926 — 22 January 2008) was a Russian theater artist, painter, professor and a specialist in the field of architectural and theatrical lighting. Biography Aleksandr Borisovich Matveyev was born in the family of the famous Soviet zoologist Boris Stepanovich Matveev. After graduation from a secondary school, he at the same time enrolled into two universities: Moscow Power Engineering Institute (graduated in 1949) and Moscow Art Theater School at Staging faculty (graduated in 1950). After graduation, he came to work in the Moscow Art Theater, but soon, in 1951, he was sent to work for the Central Academic Theater of the Soviet Army. During his time in this theater he took part in staging of more than twenty performances not only as an artist-director, but also as a lighting engineer. Aleksandr Konstantinovich Matveyev (russian: Александр Константинович Матвеев, July 8, 1926 – October 9, 2010) was a Russian linguist known for his works in toponymics (branch of linguistics studying toponyms), onomastics (studies of proper names), and etymology (origins and semantical development of words). Biography Aleksandr Matveyev was born in Sverdlovsk but because of World War II he entered and graduated from the Khabarovsk University. Starting in 1952 he worked at the Ural State University in Sverdlovsk. In 1970 he defended his second thesis (Russian degree of ''doctor nauk'') and became professor of the philological department. Since 1961 – chief of the chair of Russian language and general linguistics at the Ural State University. In 1988 he received the title of ''Scientist Emeritus of Russia''. The rowing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place between 23 and 30 July 2021 at the Sea Forest Waterway ( Central Breakwater) in Tokyo Bay. Fourteen medal events were contested by 526 athletes (263 men and women each). Competition format The rowing programme featured a total of fourteen events, seven each for both men and women in identical boat classes. This gender equality was suggested by the World Rowing Federation at its February 2017 congress, with the recommendation adopted by the International Olympic Committee in June 2017. This balancing was achieved by deleting the men's lightweight four and adding the women's coxless four boat classes. The women's coxless four previously ran at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics; the only time this boat class was an Olympic event.
