Alderbrook (horse)
Alderbrook (27 April 1989 – 31 October 2007) was an entire horse who won the Champion Hurdle in 1995 and was runner up in 1996. He was the top rated Hurdler by Timeform in both 1995 and 1996 in their publication, Chasers & Hurdlers. Background Alderbrook's sire was Ardross, a well-known staying horse from the late 1970s, and his dam was Twine. Alderbrook was the highest rated horse on the flat out of Twine. Alderbrook, foaled on 27 April 1989, was the third foal from his dam. Racing career Early career Sally Hall was Alderbrook's first trainer. His racing career did not start until he was three years old. It took him until his 5th start to register a win, and he did this off a lowly handicap mark of 58 in a Class 6 handicap at Goodwood. Alderbrook Resort & Spa, aka Alderbrook Inn or Alderbrook, is a hotel located in Union, WA on the southern shores of Hood Canal. Approximately two hours west of Seattle, Alderbrook has views of nearby Olympic National Park and Mount Washington. Alderbrook opened in 1920 as a group of tent cabins with wood stoves and has been expanded and remodeled numerous times. Today the hotel has 77 guest rooms and little more like 16 cottages, as well as a restaurant, meeting rooms, saltwater pool, spa, two marinas, and two retail spaces. History Alderbrook was originally built by Henry Stumer, a Seattle business owner who had previously owned the Hotel Stumer in Union City (now Union, WA). Alderbrook School is a co-educational secondary school in Solihull, West Midlands. It shares grounds with the neighbouring schools of Tudor Grange Academy and St Peter's Catholic School. History In 2004, David Miliband toured Alderbrook to promote the General National Vocational Qualifications (GNVQ). The school was formed in 1974 from an amalgamation of Harold Malley Boys’ and Harold Cartwright Girls’ Grammar Schools. The school turned into an academy in August 2011. Alderbrook Winery
Alderbrook Winery was a winery in Healdsburg, California, United States. The winery was owned by the Terlato Wine Group and produced upwards of 30,000 cases a year. Their signature wines were Zinfandels using grapes from the Dry Creek Valley AVA. Founded in 1982, Alderbrook originally focused on white wines. In 1992 the original partners sold the 63-acre ranch to G.W. Gillemont, from Schramsberg Vineyards. In 2001, Terlato Wine Group purchased the majority interest in Alderbrook. As of 2017, the winery was no longer operating. Wines Bryan Parker was the winemaker for Alderbrook. Alderbrook's signature wine was but they also used carignane, which is often used as a blending, for wine. Zinfandel Zinfandel was the primary varietal used at Alderbrook.
