An ''alcázar'', from Arabic ''al-Qasr'', is a type of Islamic castle or palace in Spain built during Al-Andalus, Muslim rule between the 8th and 15th centuries. They functioned as homes and regional capitals for governmental figures throughout the Umayyad Caliphate, Umayyad caliphate and later for Christian rulers following the Iberian Reconquista. The term alcázar is also used for many medieval castles built by Christians on earlier Roman, Visigothic or Islamic fortifications and is frequently used as a synonym for ''castillo'' or castle. In Latin America there are also several colonial palaces called ''alcázars''. Alcázar Of Jerez De La Frontera
The Alcázar of Jerez de la Frontera is a former Moorish , now housing a park, in Jerez de la Frontera, in the South of Spain. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1931. The first fortress was probably built in the 11th century, when Jerez was part of the small kingdom of the Taifa of Arcos de la Frontera, on a site settled since prehistoric times in the south-eastern corner of the city. In the 12th century, a new structure was erected to be used as both residence and fortress by the Almohad Caliphate. Later, after the ''Reconquista'', it was the seat of the first Christian mayors and its development continued with a palace and other structures. The alcázar is one of a few structures that best exemplify Almohad architecture in the Iberian Peninsula. Henry Alcazar
Sir Henry Albert Alcazar, KC (30 September 1860 – 13 July 1930) was a Trinidadian politician who served as the mayor of Port of Spain and a member of the Legislative Council of Trinidad and Tobago. A reformer, Alcazar campaigned for the inclusion of elected members in the Legislative Council. In the aftermath of the 1903 Water Riots, Alcazar successfully defended people charged with inciting a riot. In 1915, he was appointed to the Executive Committee which advised the Governor of Trinidad and Tobago, and was knighted in 1918. Early life and education Alcazar was born in Port of Spain to an upper middle class, mixed-race family. He was the son of John Alcazar and Pauline ( Durand de Beauval). He was educated at St. Mary's College in Port of Spain, and the University of London. He was called to the bar at Gray's Inn in London in 1882, and returned to Trinidad and Tobago that year. The Théâtre de l'Alcazar was a famous theatre, founded in the mid-19th century, that was located in the heart of Marseille's Bourse district, on , near the Canebière. Los Alcázares () is a municipality and a coastal spa town and former fishing village on the western side of the Mar Menor in the autonomous community and province of Murcia, southeastern Spain. The Alcázar of Toledo (, ) is a stone fortification located in the highest part of Toledo, Spain. It is a large quadrangular building measuring 60 meters on a side, framed by four large towers 60 meters high, each crowned by the typical Madrid spire. Most of the building was rebuilt between 1939 and 1957 after the siege of the Alcázar during the Spanish Civil War.
