Alburnett, Iowa
Alburnett is a city in Linn County, Iowa. The population was 675 at the time of the 2020 census. It is part of the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area. Alburnett was established in 1887, with the building of the Illinois Central Railroad through the area. The city got its name from land donor Albert Burnett, who also contributed to the establishment of a community around the depot. The city was incorporated in 1912. Alburnett covers a total area of 0.82 square miles. The demographics of the city are predominantly white, with a nearly equal gender split. As of the 2000 and 2010 censuses, a significant proportion of the population were children under the age of 18 and married couples living together. The median household income was $54,464 as per the 2000 census. The city's governance includes a mayor, city council, and a public works director. Linn County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 230,299, making it the second-most populous county in Iowa. The county seat is Cedar Rapids. Linn County is named in honor of Senator Lewis F. Linn of Missouri. Linn County is included in the Cedar Rapids, IA Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The earliest inhabitants of Linn County, prior to Anglo settlement, were the Sac and Fox tribes. Relations were described by 20th century historians as amicable. Tri-Rivers Conference
The Tri-Rivers Conference is a high school conference in eastern Iowa sponsoring athletic competition, as well as speech and music activities. Formed in 1967, the conference has enjoyed long-term stability while enduring periods of significant change over its 50-plus year history. With the return of Edgewood–Colesburg in 2017 (after a brief 4-year hiatus), all but one of the founding members were still conference members. (Center Point, following its merger with Urbana, simply out-grew its former competitors). Hiawatha, Iowa
Hiawatha is a city in Linn County, Iowa, United States. It is a suburb located in the northwestern side of Cedar Rapids and is part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 7,183 at the time of the 2020 census, an increase from 6,480 in 2000. History In 1946, Fay Clark, an entrepreneur of several ventures located in Linn County north of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, had a vision of houses and a highway running through a new city. In 1950 Clark and another 45 residents signed a petition seeking to become the 17th incorporated town in Linn County. The town would be named after Clark's trailer company. That same year he and Henry Katz of Marion established the Linn County Fire Association to help provide fire protection to rural communities. Clark served as mayor of Hiawatha from 1950 to 1958, and again from 1961 to 1963. Clark died in 1991 at the age of 84.
