Albert Thompson (Australian Politician)
Albert Victor Thompson (14 November 1886 – 13 January 1966) was a member of the Australian House of Representatives and the South Australian House of Assembly. Born at Yatala (now Rosewater) near Port Adelaide, South Australia, Thompson was the sixth child of Joseph Thompson and Jane Ann Batey, both of Northumberland, England. Thompson married Millicent Maud Garnaut on 19 January 1909 and initially farmed near Keith in southeast South Australia before a drought in 1914 led to their return to Port Adelaide. In 1930 Thompson was elected President of the Carters and Drivers Union, (later the Transport Workers Union). His influence in the union movement led to his preselection as the Labor Party candidate for the safe Labor seat of Port Adelaide at the 1930 South Australian election. After the institution of single-member electorates in the South Australian House of Assembly in 1938, Thompson successfully transferred to Semaphore, serving there until 1946. Albert Thompson (Georgia Politician)
Albert William Thompson (June 29, 1922 –December 26, 2004) was an American politician and jurist for the state of Georgia. In 1965, he became one of the first African Americans to serve in the desegregated Georgia House of Representatives, and continued to serve seven terms. Albert Childers Meysey-Thompson (13 July 1848 – 20 March 1894) was an English barrister and an amateur association football, footballer who played for Wanderers F.C., Wanderers in the 1872 FA Cup Final and for Old Etonians F.C., Old Etonians in the 1875 FA Cup Final, 1875 and 1876 FA Cup Finals. Family and education Born at Kirby Hall near Little Ouseburn, as Albert Childers Thompson, he was the son of Sir Harry Meysey-Thompson, 1st Baronet (1809–1874) and Elizabeth Anne Croft. Albert's brother Charles Meysey-Thompson, Charles played for Wanderers in the 1873 FA Cup Final and the Old Etonians in the first match of the replayed 1876 FA Cup Final. Albert John Thompson (1885 – 14 June 1956) was an English amateur footballer who played as an outside left in the Football League for Grimsby Town. Personal life Thompson's younger brother Ralph also played for Grimsby Town and was killed on the first day on the Somme. His father John was a builder and chairman of Grimsby Town in 1905 and 1906. Thompson served in the Royal Navy during the First World War and later rose to become a director of the Ross Group.
