Albert Gauthier De Clagny
Albert Gauthier de Clagny (14 September 1853 – 16 December 1927) was a right-wing French politician during the period before World War I. He was a respected lawyer, a Bonapartist and an anti-Dreyfusard. Early years Albert Gauthier de Clagny was born on 14 September 1853 in Versailles, Seine-et-Oise. He joined the cavalry for his military service. He then spent some years among workers in the north, the Pyrenees and in Italy, where he worked in quarries of hard marble. He turned to the study of the law, earned his doctorate in 1882 and in 1883 became an advocate to the Council of State and the Court of Cassation. Gauthier de Clagny was a supporter of General Georges Ernest Boulanger, and a member of the steering committee of the republican plebiscite committees in 1883. In 1885 he was a supporter of the Bonapartist Appel au peuple, and spoke against parliamentarianism and in favor of a plebiscite and revision of the 1875 constitution. French nationalism () usually manifests as cultural nationalism, promoting the cultural unity of France. History French nationalism emerged from its numerous wars with England, which involved the reconquest of the territories that made up France. The wars produced a great icon of French nationalism, Joan of Arc. The Catholic religion also played a major role after the Protestant Reformation. French nationalism became a powerful movement after the French Revolution in 1789. Félix Jules Méline (; 20 May 183821 December 1925) was a French statesman, Prime Minister of France from 1896 to 1898. Biography Méline was born at Remiremont. Having taken up law as his profession, he was chosen a deputy in 1872, and in 1879 he was for a short time Under-Secretary to the Minister of the Interior. In 1880 he came to the front as the leading spokesman of the party which favoured the protection of French industries, and he had a considerable share in fashioning the protectionist legislation of the years 1890–1902. From 1883 to 1885 Méline was Minister for Agriculture, and in 1888–1889 he was President of the Chamber of Deputies. In 1896 he became Premier (''Président du Conseil'') and Minister for Agriculture, offices which he vacated in 1898.
