Albany International Airport is six miles (9 km) northwest of Albany, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is owned by the Albany County Airport Authority. ALB covers of land. It is an air port of entry in the town of Colonie. It was built on the site of the Shaker settlement about north of Albany and stretching north to the hamlet of Verdoy. The airport is a Class Charlie Airspace. Albany International Airport serves as the major air center for the Capital Region, Northeastern New York, and Western New England. In 2019, the airport handled a total of 1,518,969 passengers, which was a 3.6% increase from 2018. Many airlines serve the airport, with Southwest Airlines having the most presence. They hold 34% of the total airline share at Albany. Along with Southwest Airlines, Albany sees service with many other low-cost carriers, including JetBlue Airways, Allegiant Airlines, and Frontier Airlines. Albany Regional Airport is an airport serving Albany, Western Australia. It is located northwest of Albany just off Albany Highway and operated by the City of Albany. Also known as Harry Riggs Albany Regional Airport, it is the largest airport in the Great Southern region. The IATA airport code is sometimes listed as ABA and the ICAO airport code was previously YPAL. The Royal Flying Doctors Service, general charter flights and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) flights are also serviced by the airport. Southwest Georgia Regional Airport is an airport four miles southwest of Albany, in Dougherty County, Georgia, in the United States. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a ''primary commercial service'' airport. Federal Aviation Administration records say the airport had 39,200 passenger boardings (enplanements) in calendar year 2008, 33,044 in 2009 and 35,494 in 2010. History Albany Airport opened in 1935, about 4 miles southwest of the city. In October 1938 Eastern Air Lines began mail service to the field. Eastern's Eddie Rickenbacker announced that as soon as the City improved the airport, Eastern would start passenger service.
