Alan Miller (football Coach)
Alan Thomas Miller (1 June 1925 – 9 September 2000) was an Australian rules football coach in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was senior coach of South Melbourne in 1967 and 1968, one of only a few people who have coached a VFL/AFL club without having been a player in the league. Miller, who was born in Colac, served with the Royal Australian Navy during World War II. He played amateur football with South Melbourne Districts, then in 1953 and 1954 coached Albert Park in the Melbourne Amateur Sunday Football Association. After steering Albert Park to a premiership in 1954, Miller was coach of the South Melbourne thirds (Under 19s). In Miller's seven years as coach, from 1955 to 1961, South Melbourne finished in the top five every season and won a premiership in 1956. 1967 VFL Season
The 1967 VFL season was the 71st season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 15 April until 23 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Richmond Football Club for the sixth time, after it defeated by nine points in the 1967 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1967, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus two substitute players, known as the 19th man and the 20th man. The Alfred Hospital
The Alfred Hospital, also known as The Alfred or Alfred Hospital, is a leading tertiary teaching hospital in Melbourne, Victoria. It is the second oldest hospital in Victoria, and the oldest Melbourne hospital still operating on its original site. The Alfred is one of two major adult trauma centres in Victoria, and houses the largest intensive care unit in Australia. In 2021 it was ranked as one of the world's best hospitals. Ken Boyd (footballer)
Kenneth John Boyd (born 6 March 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Boyd, a ruckman, made his way up the South Melbourne ranks from the thirds, before starting with seniors in 1957. He spent five seasons in the VFL and developed a reputation for his rough playing style. Often falling foul of the umpires, Boyd missed a total of 30 league games during his VFL career through suspension. In his debut season he was involved in two separate scuffles with Mike Delanty, during South Melbourne's round 15 encounter against Collingwood. He was suspended for eight matches, two for each of the striking charges and an additional four for abusing the umpire. He battled through injuries in 1958 to play 10 games and the following season put together another 14 matches. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season. Australian Broadcasting Control Board
The Australian Broadcasting Control Board was an Australian government agency formed in 1949 whose main roles were to regulate commercial radio and television broadcasting. It was also the introducer and regulator for FM broadcasting. The agency held public hearings, issued commercial broadcasting licenses, and performed the technical planning for the National and Commercial broadcasting networks. The Postmaster-General's Department was responsible for the engineering functions for the National transmitter facilities. Commercial broadcasters were responsible for their own construction and installation.
