Albert Leornes Greene (born April 13, 1946), better known as Al Green, is an American singer, songwriter, pastor and record producer best known for recording a series of soul hit singles in the early 1970s, including " Take Me to the River", "Tired of Being Alone", " I'm Still in Love with You", "Love and Happiness", and his signature song, " Let's Stay Together". After an incident in which his girlfriend died by suicide, Green became an ordained pastor and turned to gospel music. He later returned to secular music. Green was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. He was referred to on the museum's site as being "one of the most gifted purveyors of soul music". He has also been referred to as "The Last of the Great Soul Singers". Green is the winner of 11 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Al Green (basketball)
Al Green (born 3 September 1953) is an American-Australian former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for three different colleges and was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 1979. He arrived in Australia in 1981 and had a successful career in the National Basketball League (NBL) until his retirement in 1993. He won two NBL championships in 1982 and 1984, and was the NBL Most Valuable Player in 1982. Early life and college Green was born in New York City and grew up in South Bronx. He attended Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine, where he was a third-team ''Parade'' All-American selection in 1974. Green began his college basketball career at Arizona Western College before playing two seasons for the NC State Wolfpack between 1975 and 1977. Al Green (politician)
Alexander N. Green (born September 1, 1947) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative from Texas's 9th congressional district since 2005. A member of the Democratic Party, Green served as the justice of the peace of Harris County, Texas from 1977 to 2004. The 9th district includes most of southwestern Houston and part of Fort Bend County, including most of Missouri City. Early life and early career Green was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Florida A&M University and Tuskegee University. He received a Juris Doctor degree in 1974 from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. After law school, Green co-founded the law firm of Green, Wilson, Dewberry, and Fitch. He remained in Houston and lives in the community of Alief. Albert Green (also known as A. B. Green) was an American record industry executive, and founder and president of National Records. Biography Green was born in Chicago where he worked as a union organizer for the Painters Union. He moved to Phillipsburg, New Jersey where he owned a plastic pressing plant. During World War II, his factory switched from producing toilet seat covers to producing plastic records - which had previously been made from shellac. Seeing that the real money was in producing records and not knowing anything about the business, he hired Sylvia Langler (later his wife), who had experience in the industry. In 1944, he founded National Records and hired Herb Abramson, a friend of his wife, as his A&R man. As the business grew, he brought in more A&R men including Lee Magid, Bob Shad, and Jesse Stone. Alfred Dobalo (October 15, 1955 – June 14, 2013) was an American professional wrestler best known by his ring name Al Green. In his career, he performed in North America, Europe, and Japan under a variety of gimmicks, including in multiple stints in World Championship Wrestling as Rage as one half of the team The Wrecking Crew with Fury, Blade as one half of the Master Blasters with Steel, and finally as a singles wrestler as The Dog. Alexander Green (executioner)
Alexander Green (–1879) was an Australian executioner. He arrived in the colony of New South Wales in 1824 as a convict and became the colony's official executioner in 1828. His career as an executioner spanned over 25 years and carried out almost 500 executions, all but one of which were public. Early life Green was born in the Netherlands in about 1802, the son of a travelling circus performer. In 1824, he was convicted of theft at Shrewsbury for stealing "a piece of brown stuff from a shop" and sentenced to be transported to Australia. He was listed as working as a tumbler on the court record and was recorded as standing tall. Australia Green arrived in Sydney as a convict on 12 July 1824 aboard '' Countess of Harcourt''. Life Green was born at Maidstone on 10 October 1832, was the eldest son of Thomas Sheldon Green, head-master of the Ashby Grammar School at Ashby-de-la-Zouch, who had married Miss Derington of Hinckley in Leicestershire. Al Paul Hamilton Greene (born 5 May 1978) is a Gibraltarian former footballer who most notably played as a forward for Glacis United, as well as various spells in the lower leagues of Spain. Towards the end of his career, he also turned out for Lions Gibraltar and St Joseph's, as well as representing the Gibraltar national football team once after they joined UEFA.
