Ja'fari ( ar, الجعفري fa, جعفری) is a surname commonly associated with descendants of Ja'far al-Sadiq, an important Muslim scholar and the Imamah (Shia), 6th Shia Imam. In South Asia, Persia and the Levant, those of this genealogy, also often take the honorific title of Sayyid. ''Sayyid'' (, ; ar, سيد ; ; meaning 'sir', 'Lord', 'Master'; Arabic plural: ; feminine: ; ) is a surname of people descending from the Prophets in Islam, Islamic prophet Muhammad through his grandsons, Hasan ibn Ali and Husayn ibn Ali, sons of Muhammad's daughter Fatimah, Fatima and his cousin and son-in-law Ali (Ali ibn Abi Talib). Murtaza Jafri (born 7 March 1958) is a Pakistani painter, draftsman, sculptor and art-educator. He is also principal/Vice Chancellor of National College of Arts, Lahore, a post he has been holding since August 2013. Jafri has been teaching art since 1987 and has taught at National College of Arts, he has also supervised PhD candidates in leading universities of Pakistan and abroad. Ehsan Jafri
Ehsan Jafri (1929 – 28 February 2002) was an Indian politician and former member of the 6th Lok Sabha for the Congress Party, who was killed in the Gulbarg Society massacre. A Special Investigating Team appointed by the Supreme Court of India concluded that he was killed after he fired at an agitated Hindu mob outside his house. His widow Zakia Jafri has subsequently alleged that the state of Gujarat and its then-chief minister, now the current prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, was partly responsible for the violence and lack of police intervention in favor of the victims at Gulbarg Society.
