Akwesasne Lightning
The Akwesasne Indians are Junior "B" box lacrosse team from Akwesasne (the borderlands between Ontario, Quebec, and New York). The Indians compete in the OLA Junior B Lacrosse League. History The Akwesasne Lightning joined the OJBLL in 1996. They joined around the same time that the other major Iroquois teams, Onondaga Warriors and Kahnawake Mohawks, joined the OLA. Onondaga and Kahnawake walked away after a few years in the league to join the Iroquois Nations Junior B Lacrosse League, but Akwesasne decided to stay and have become a top team in the OJBLL. Box Lacrosse
Box lacrosse, also known as boxla, box, or indoor lacrosse, is an indoor version of lacrosse played mostly in North America. The game originated in Canada in the 1930s, where it is more popular than field lacrosse. Lacrosse is Canada's official national summer sport. Box lacrosse is played between two teams of five players and one goalie each, and is traditionally played on an ice hockey rink once the ice has been removed or covered. The playing area is called a box, in contrast to the open playing field of field lacrosse. The object of the game is to use a lacrosse stick to catch, carry, and pass the ball in an effort to score by shooting a solid rubber lacrosse ball into the opponent's goal. Lacrosse Of The Iroquois Confederacy
Lacrosse is a team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century. The game was extensively modified by European colonists, reducing the violence, to create its current collegiate and professional form. Players use the head of the lacrosse stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the goal. The sport has four versions that have different sticks, fields, rules and equipment: field lacrosse, women's lacrosse, box lacrosse and intercrosse. The WarChiefs play in the First Nations Junior B Lacrosse League (FNJBLL), sanctioned by the First Nations Lacrosse Association (FNLA). History Co-founded in August 2013 by long-time friends Charles Scanlan and Michael Snyder, Seneca WarChiefs were one of four founding member teams in the Iroquois Nations Junior B Lacrosse League. Manitoba Blizzard are a Junior B box lacrosse team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Blizzard compete in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League. History Formed in 2010 as the Manitoba Gryphons, the team was the first Manitoba-based team to join the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League. After a two-year probationary period the Gryphons were granted full league membership for the 2012 season in which they finished 10-9-0, sixth best in the 10-team league. The Six Nations Rebels are a Canadian Junior "B" box lacrosse team from Hagersville, Ontario on the Six Nations of the Grand River Reserve. The Rebels play in the OLA Junior B Lacrosse League.
