Akan (Ghana Parliament Constituency)
The Akan constituency is one of the constituency, constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament, Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It is located in the Kadjebi District, Kadjebi district of the Oti Region of Ghana. Boundaries The constituency is located within the Kadjebi district of the Oti Region of Ghana. To the north is the Nkwanta South (Ghana parliament constituency), Nkwanta South constituency in the Nkwanta District, to the west, the Krachi East (Ghana parliament constituency), Krachi East in the Krachi East District, to the south the Jasikan District and to the east, the Ghana - Togo border. Kadjebi District
Kadjebi District is one of the eight districts in Oti Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly on 10 March 1989, which was created from the former Jasikan District Council, which it was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 1465. The district assembly is located in the southern part of Oti Region and has Kadjebi as its capital town. 2016 Ghanaian General Election
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2016 to elect a President and Members of Parliament. They had originally been scheduled for 7 November 2016, but the date was later rejected by Parliament. Former foreign minister Nana Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party was elected President on his third attempt, defeating incumbent President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress. The election results were announced on 9 December 2016 due to a delay of voting in two areas. At 19:51 local time, Mahama called Akufo-Addo to concede defeat. At 20:45, the Electoral Commission declared that Akufo-Addo had defeated Mahama in a single round. It was the first time in Ghana's history that a sitting president had been defeated for reelection. The election of Members of Parliament (MPs) to the 7th Parliament of the Fourth Republic was held on 7 December 2016. The Speaker is not an elected member of parliament though he/she is qualified to stand for election as such. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. National Convention Party (Ghana)
The National Convention Party (NCP) is a political party in Ghana that existed between 1992 and January 1996. Formation and Progressive Alliance The party was formed in 1992 after the ban on political parties was lifted by the military Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) government. Its first leader was Kow Nkensen Arkaah. Kojo Tsikata is reported to have been instrumental in getting the Kwame Nkrumah Youngsters Club and the Kwame Nkrumah Welfare Society to merge to form the National Convention Party. He was the patron of both clubs. He was also instrumental along with P. V. Obeng and Ebo Tawiah in forming the electoral alliance between the NCP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
