Aisle (video Game)
''Aisle'' is a 1999 interactive fiction video game whose major innovation is to allow only a single move and offer from it over a hundred possible outcomes. It is notable for introducing and popularizing the ''one move genre''. Plot The main character is a man standing in the pasta aisle of a modern supermarket. The opening text states: You've had a ''hard'' day and the last thing you need is this: shopping. Luckily, the place is pretty empty and you're progressing rapidly. On to the next aisle. The character's interest is piqued by the gnocchi he sees in the pasta aisle and a few other items are noted. Then the player is asked to choose how to proceed. Sam Barlow (video Game Director)
Sam Barlow is a British video game designer, best known as the writer and designer of ''Her Story (video game), Her Story,'' the two British ''Silent Hill'' games, ''Silent Hill: Origins'' and ''Silent Hill: Shattered Memories,'' and ''Immortality (video game), Immortality''. He previously worked as a game director at Climax Studios, before leaving in 2014 to become an Indie game, indie game developer. He published his first independent game, ''Her Story (video game), Her Story'', in June 2015. In 2017 he founded Half Mermaid, a video game production company based in Brooklyn, New York. Interactive fiction Barlow was active in the interactive fiction scene of the late 1990s, most notably releasing the game ''Aisle (video game), Aisle'' in 1999. Originally launched on 13 July 2007 as an independent site, ''Rock Paper Shotgun'' was acquired and brought into the Gamer Network, a network of sites led by ''Eurogamer'' in May 2017. Its editor-in-chief is Katharine Castle and its deputy editor is Alice Bell. Contributors ''Rock Paper Shotgun'' was founded by Kieron Gillen, Jim Rossignol, Alec Meer and John Walker in 2007. The XYZZY Awards are the annual awards given to works of interactive fiction, serving a similar role to the Academy Awards for film. The awards were inaugurated in 1997 by Eileen Mullin, the editor of ''XYZZYnews''. Any game released during the year prior to the award ceremony is eligible for nomination to receive an award. The decision process takes place in two stages: members of the interactive fiction community nominate works within specific categories and sufficiently supported nominations become finalists within those categories. ''Destructoid'' is a website that was founded as a video game-focused blog in March 2006 by Yanier Gonzalez, a Cuban-American cartoonist and author. Enthusiast Gaming acquired the website in 2017, and sold it to Gamurs Group in 2022. History ''Destructoid'' was owned by Yanier "Niero" Gonzalez so that he could attend the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2006. After being rejected, Gonzalez began writing original editorials and drawing cartoons which were picked up by established gaming blogs like ''Joystiq'' and '' Kotaku''. Z-machine
The Z-machine is a virtual machine that was developed by Joel Berez and Marc Blank in 1979 and used by Infocom for its text adventure games. Infocom compiled game code to files containing Z-machine instructions (called story files or Z-code files) and could therefore port its text adventures to a new platform simply by writing a Z-machine implementation for that platform. With the large number of incompatible home computer systems in use at the time, this was an important advantage over using native code or developing a compiler for each system. Gnocchi ( , , ; singular ''gnocco'') are a varied family of dumpling in Italian cuisine.
