This is a list of airports in Massachusetts (a U.S. state), grouped by type and sorted by location. It contains all public use and military airports in the state. Some private-use and former airports may be included where notable, such as airports that were previously public-use, those with commercial enplanements recorded by the FAA or airports assigned an IATA airport code. As of 2009, there were 37 public-use airports, 184 private landing areas, and 2 seaplane bases in Massachusetts. 24 of the public-use airports are government owned, either by municipalities or the Massachusetts Port Authority. An airport is an aerodrome with extended facilities, mostly for commercial air transport. Airports usually consists of a landing area, which comprises an aerially accessible open space including at least one operationally active surface such as a runway for a plane to take off and to land or a helipad, and often includes adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals, to maintain and monitor aircraft. Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts
Vineyard Haven is a community within the town of Tisbury, Massachusetts on the island of Martha's Vineyard. It is listed as a census-designated place (CDP) by the U.S. Census Bureau with a population of 2,114 as of the 2010 census. The area was called "Nobnocket" by the Wampanoag people and was first referred to by the colonial settlers as "Homes Hole," "Homes" from a Wampanoag term for "old man" and "Hole" meaning a sheltered inlet. By the 19th century, it was more commonly spelled "Holmes Hole" after the descendants of John Holmes (1730–1812) who had settled in the village during the second half of the 18th century. The village officially changed its name to Vineyard Haven in 1871. Chatham Municipal Airport is a public airport located two miles (3 km) northwest of the central business district of Chatham, a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. The airport is owned by the Town of Chatham. It has a full-service FBO (Cape Cod Flying Circus) and maintenance facility in their main building (Stick N Rudder Aero Maintenance). Chatham, Massachusetts
Chatham () is a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. Chatham is located at the southeast tip of Cape Cod and has historically been a fishing community. First settled by the English in 1664, the township was originally called Monomoit based on the indigenous population's term for the region. Chatham was incorporated as a town on June 11, 1712, and has become a summer resort area. The population was 6,594 at the 2020 census, and can swell to 25,000 during the summer months. Norwood Memorial Airport is a public airport east of Norwood, in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. It is home to the offices of prominent local business people and several maintenance facilities. As Outlying Landing Field Norwood, the airfield was a Naval Outlying Landing Field located in Norwood, Massachusetts operational from 1942 to 1945. It existed as an outlying field of Naval Air Station Squantum and was used by student pilots to gain flight experience on its two runways. The 1946 chart shows it as a civil airfield. Norwood is a town and census-designated place in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Norwood is part of the Greater Boston area. As of the 2020 census, the population was 31,611. Lawrence Municipal Airport is two miles east of Lawrence, in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. It is owned by the City of Lawrence, though it is in North Andover. Northeast DC-3s stopped at Lawrence from 1946 to 1965; from 1952 to 1960, it rated nonstops to New York La Guardia. The airport is home to the Essex County Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.
