Helipad
A helipad is a landing area or platform for helicopters and powered lift aircraft. While helicopters and powered lift aircraft are able to operate on a variety of relatively flat surfaces, a fabricated helipad provides a clearly marked hard surface away from obstacles where such aircraft can land safely. Larger helipads, intended for use by helicopters and other vertical take-off and landing aircraft (VTOL), may be called ''vertiports.'' An example is Vertiport Chicago, which opened in 2015. Usage Helipads may be located at a heliport or airport where fuel, air traffic control and service facilities for aircraft are available. Most helipads are located remote from populated areas due to sounds, winds, space and cost constraints. However, some skyscrapers maintain a helipad on their roofs in order to accommodate air taxi services. Bassel Al-Assad International Airport
Bassel al-Assad International Airport ( ar, مطار باسل الأسد الدولي) is an airport serving Latakia, the principal port city of Syria. The airport is named for Bassel al-Assad (1962–1994), son of former Syrian President Hafez al-Assad and brother of his successor Bashar al-Assad. Facilities The airport resides at an elevation of above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 17/35 with an asphalt surface measuring . Mil Mi-8
The Mil Mi-8 (russian: Ми-8, NATO reporting name: Hip) is a medium twin-turbine helicopter, originally designed by the Soviet Union in the 1960s and introduced into the Soviet Air Force in 1968. It is now produced by Russia. In addition to its most common role as a transport helicopter, the Mi-8 is also used as an airborne command post, armed gunship, and reconnaissance platform. Along with the related, more powerful Mil Mi-17, the Mi-8 is among the world's most-produced helicopters, used by over 50 countries. Aleppo International Airport
Aleppo International Airport ( ar, مطار حلب الدولي) is an international airport serving Aleppo, Syria. The airport is serving as a secondary hub for Syrian Air and Cham Wings. History The history of the airport dates back to the beginning of the 20th century during the French Mandate. In 1924, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines made their first flight from Amsterdam to Batavia, Dutch East Indies, through the airport in Aleppo. The airport was upgraded and developed over the years until 1999 when the new current terminal was inaugurated. Flag Of Syria
As a result of the Syrian Civil War since 2011, there are at least two flags used to represent Syria, used by different factions in the war. The incumbent government of the Syrian Arab Republic led by the Ba'ath Party uses the red-white-black tricolour originally used by the United Arab Republic, while Syrian opposition factions such as the Syrian National Coalition use the green-white-black tricolour known as the ''Independence flag'', first used by Mandatory Syria. Al-Hasakah Governorate
Al-Hasakah Governorate ( ar, محافظة الحسكة, Muḥāfaẓat al-Ḥasakah, ku, Parêzgeha Hesekê}, syc, ܗܘܦܪܟܝܐ ܕܚܣܟܗ, Huparkiyo d'Ḥasake, also known as syc, ܓܙܪܬܐ, Gozarto) is one of the fourteen governorates (provinces) of Syria. Rmelan
Rmelan ( ar, رميلان, ku, Rimêlan) is a town in the al-Hasakah Governorate in the northeast of Syria. Administratively part of the al-Yaarubiyah nahiyah of al-Malikiyah District, the town is located 900 km northeast of the capital Damascus, 165 km northeast of the governorate capital al-Hasakah, 70 km east of Qamishli, 30 km southwest of the district centre al-Malikiyah and 0.5 km southwest of the sub-district centre Ma'badah. It has an area of 5 km² and a population of 11,500, based on the 2009 official estimate. The town is famous for being one of the major centres of oil production in Syria. Abu Hajar Airport
The Abu Hajar Airport ( ar, مطار أبو حجر) is an airfield near the town of Rmelan in the al-Hasakah Governorate of northeast Syria. Before 2010, it was used as an agricultural transport airport and was subsequently abandoned until the end of 2015. History In November and December 2015, the United States Air Force reportedly began reconstruction work of the airstrip with the support of the People's Protection Units in the area, landing two helicopters in the field. The runway was reportedly planned to be expanded to wide to be prepared for use by military aircraft. The airport is planned to be used by the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve to provide air support for the Syrian Democratic Forces. The geographic coordinate system (GCS) is a spherical or ellipsoidal coordinate system for measuring and communicating positions directly on the Earth as latitude and longitude.
