Air Member For Supply And Organisation
The Air Member for Materiel is the senior Royal Air Force officer responsible for procurement matters. The post-holder is a member of the Air Force Board and is in charge of all aspects of procurement and organisation for RAF regular, reserve and civilian staffs worldwide. History The post which was created in 1923 was originally known as the Air Member for Supply and Research; it was renamed Air Member for Supply and Organisation in 1936 and Air Member for Logistics in 1994. Since 2007 it has been the Air Member for Materiel. Royal Air Force
The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's air and space force. It was formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918, becoming the first independent air force in the world, by regrouping the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). Following the Allied victory over the Central Powers in 1918, the RAF emerged as the largest air force in the world at the time. Since its formation, the RAF has taken a significant role in British military history. In particular, it played a large part in the Second World War where it fought its most famous campaign, the Battle of Britain. Air Marshal Sir Charles Broughton, (27 April 1911 – 17 May 1998) was a Royal Air Force officer who served as Air Member for Supply and Organisation from 1966 until his retirement in 1968. Air Chief Marshal Sir Patrick Bardon Hine, (born 14 July 1932) is a former senior Royal Air Force commander. Most notably, he was joint commander of all British forces during the Gulf War. RAF career Hine was born near Southampton on 14 July 1932. He was educated at Peter Symonds School in Winchester. Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael William Patrick Knight, (23 November 1932 – 28 November 2022) was a British Royal Air Force commander who was well known for his various charity projects, especially for the "Vulcan to the Sky" cause. Early life Knight was born on 23 November 1932 in Leek, Staffordshire.
