Newmarket, historically known as Aghatrasna (), is a town in the barony of Duhallow, County Cork, Ireland. It is situated at the junction of the R576 and R578 regional roads. Newmarket is within the Cork North-West Dáil constituency History The foundation of the town of Newmarket can be dated to the early 1600s, when King James I granted the lands which had formerly been held by the McAuliffe clan to the Aldworth family, with the right to hold a market there. The Aldworths remained at Newmarket until the 1920s: their family seat was Newmarket Court. The town was beginning to develop by 1620. Newmarket Train Station opened in 1889 as the line from Banteer to Newmarket was built at 8 3/4 miles long and had only one station at Kanturk. Newmarket GAA is a Gaelic football and Hurling club in Newmarket, County Cork, Ireland which is part of the parish of Newmarket, Taur. Newmarkets football team competes in the Cork Senior A Football Championship and their hurling team competes in the Duhallow Junior A Hurling Championship. History The Gaelic Athletic Association has been part of life in Newmarket since the closing years of the 19th century. The records show that the club fielded teams in the Cork Senior Football Championship of 1897 and 1901. Munster Technological University Cork GAA club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the Munster Technological University in Bishopstown, Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in a range of competitions in both hurling and Gaelic football. History Gaelic games were first played at the then Cork Regional Technical College when a student Gaelic football team was established in 1975. A student hurling team was set up the following year. The staff of the RTC Cork also had an active GAA club, and competed in various inter-firm hurling and football competitions. The Cork county football team represents Cork in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Cork GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). The Cork Premier Intermediate Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as Bon Secours Cork County Premier Intermediate Football Championship and abbreviated to the Cork PIFC) is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking intermediate clubs in the county of Cork in Ireland. It is the third tier overall in the entire Cork Gaelic football championship system. The Cork Premier Intermediate Championship was introduced in 2006 following a split in the existing Cork Intermediate Football Championship. Killian O'Hanlon
Killian O'Hanlon (born 1993) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays as a midfielder for club side Kilshannig, divisional side Avondhu and at inter-county level with the Cork senior football team. Playing career Kilshannig O'Hanlon joined the Kilshannig club at a young age and played in all grades at juvenile and underage levels before joining the club's junior team. He enjoyed his first success at adult level when the club secured the North Cork JAFC title in 2014, before claiming a second divisional title five years later.
