Ahmet Çakır
Ahmet Çakır (born 1964) is a Turkish politician and Mayor of Malatya since 29 March 2009. Early life and career Ahmet Çakır was born in 1964 in Darende district in Malatya, Turkey. Çakır completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Darende. He graduated from faculty of economics at Anadolu University. He was a member of Malatya Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD). Çakır is married and has two children. Political career Ahmet Çakır, along with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, co-founded the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) on August 14, 2001. In the 2009 regional elections, Çakır ran and won for the post of mayor of Malatya from the AK Party. Justice And Development Party (Turkey)
The Justice and Development Party ( tr, Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, ; AKP), abbreviated officially AK Party in English, is a political party in Turkey self-describing as conservative-democrat. It is one of the two major parties of contemporary Turkey along with the Republican People's Party (CHP). Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been chairman of AKP since the 2017 Party Congress. The AKP is the largest party in the Grand National Assembly, the Turkish national legislature, with 285 out of 600 seats, having won 42.6% of votes in the 2018 Turkish parliamentary election. The Turkish people, or simply the Turks ( tr, Türkler), are the world's largest Turkic ethnic group; they speak various dialects of the Turkish language and form a majority in Turkey and Northern Cyprus. In addition, centuries-old ethnic Turkish communities still live across other former territories of the Ottoman Empire. Article 66 of the Turkish Constitution defines a "Turk" as: "Anyone who is bound to the Turkish state through the bond of citizenship." While the legal use of the term "Turkish" as it pertains to a citizen of Turkey is different from the term's ethnic definition, the majority of the Turkish population (an estimated 70 to 75 percent) are of Turkish ethnicity. Darende
Darende ( tr, Darende ) is a district in Malatya Province, Turkey. The district lies 46 miles (74 km) to the northwest of Malatya, 87 miles (140 km) south of Sivas, 110 miles (117 km) east of Kayseri. History Darende had been known by various names including ''Taranda/Daranda'', and ''Derindere''. It has been presumed that the district had been inhabited since 7000-5000 BC due to the estimations made for the nearby archaeological sites such as Arslantepe and Cafer Höyük. The first known administrative unit in Darende was reportedly established by Hittites.
