Afro-Kittitians and Nevisians are Saint Kitts and Nevis people whose ancestry lies within the continent of Africa, most notably West Africa. As of 2013, black people are the predominant ethnic group in Saint Kitts and Nevis. History The initial arrival of Africans in St. Kitts and Nevis was in the late 17th century as a result of the slave trade. St Kitts, the largest of the two islands, has geography well suited for sugar plantations, but was plagued by colonial warfare in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Nevis, which has similar geography and was relatively sheltered, became an early center of the slave trade in the West Indies. The first census of Nevis, conducted in 1671, recorded 1,739 African slaves. Six years later this number grew to 3,849, consisting of 1,422 men, 1,321 women, and 1,106 children. English Language

Atiba Erasto Harris (born 9 January 1985) is a Kittitian football administrator and former professional footballer. He captained the Saint Kitts and Nevis national team. As of August 2021, he serves as President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association. Career Club Harris played for St. Peters FC as a youngster, captaining them to the SKNFA Premier League Finals, and became the first player from St. Kitts to sign with a Spanish club when he signed in Spain with Cádiz in 2004–05. Sir Kennedy Simmonds
Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds, KCMG (born 12 April 1936), is a Saint Kittitian and Nevisian politician who served as the first prime minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis from 1983 to 1995. Life and career Simmonds was born in Basseterre on 12 April 1936. He graduated as a physician from the University of the West Indies in 1962. He married Mary Matthew, and they had five children. Simmonds was a founding member of the People's Action Movement (PAM) party. He was the Premier of Saint Kitts and Nevis from 21 February 1980, until the twin-island state gained independence from the United Kingdom on 19 September 1983. Sir Cuthbert Montraville Sebastian (22 October 1921 – 25 March 2017) was the second governor-general of Saint Kitts and Nevis from 1996 to 2013. Caryl Phillips (born 13 March 1958) is a Kittitian-British novelist, playwright and essayist. Best known for his novels (for which he has won multiple awards), Phillips is often described as a Black Atlantic writer, since much of his fictional output is defined by its interest in, and searching exploration of, the experiences of peoples of the African diaspora in England, the Caribbean and the United States. As well as writing, Phillips has worked as an academic at numerous institutions including Amherst College, Barnard College, and Yale University, where he has held the position of Professor of English since 2005. Rawlins Lowndes
Rawlins Lowndes (January 6, 1721August 24, 1800) was an American lawyer, planter and politician who became involved in the patriot cause after election to South Carolina's legislature, although he opposed independence from Great Britain. Lowndes served as president/governor of South Carolina during the American Revolutionary War, and after the war opposed his state's ratification of the U.S. Constitution because it would restrict the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Sir Edmund Wickham Lawrence (born 14 February 1932) was the third governor-general of Saint Kitts and Nevis from 2013 to 2015. He was sworn in at midnight on 1 January 2013. Sir Edmund is Methodist. Erasmus James (born November 4, 1982) is a former American football defensive end. He played college football at University of Wisconsin, and earned consensus All-American honors. Keith "Kayamba" Gumbs (born 11 September 1972 in St. Kitts, Saint Kitts and Nevis) is a retired St. Kitts and Nevis international football player. Playing career Gumbs began playing football while he was attending the Newtown Primary School (now the Tucker/Clarke Primary School), continued at Basseterre Junior High (now the Washington Archilbald High School) and then Basseterre Senior High where he finished his schooling.
