''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'' (also known as ''Alice in Wonderland'') is an 1865 English Children's literature, children's novel by Lewis Carroll, a mathematics university don, don at the University of Oxford. It details the story of a girl named Alice (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland), Alice who falls through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world of anthropomorphism, anthropomorphic creatures. It is seen as an example of the literary nonsense genre. The artist John Tenniel provided 42 wood-engraved illustrations for the book. It received positive reviews upon release and is now one of the best-known works of Victorian literature; its narrative, structure, characters and imagery have had a widespread influence on popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre. ''Adventures in Wonderland'' is an American live-action/puppet musical television series based on the novels ''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'' (1865) and ''Through the Looking-Glass'' (1871) by Lewis Carroll as well as the 1951 animated film. In the series, Alice (played by Elisabeth Harnois), is portrayed as a girl who can come and go from Wonderland simply by walking through her mirror (a reference to ''Through the Looking-Glass''). Production The series originally ran from March 23, 1992 to 1995 (with reruns continuing until at least 1998) on The Disney Channel and on stations across the country. ''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'' is a ballet in three acts by Christopher Wheeldon with a scenario by Nicholas Wright, based on ''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'' by Lewis Carroll. It was commissioned by The Royal Ballet, Covent Garden, and the National Ballet of Canada, and had its world premiere on Monday, 28 February 2011. The music by Joby Talbot is the first full-length score (1 hour 40 minutes) for the Royal Ballet in 20 years. It is also the first full-length narrative ballet commissioned by The Royal Ballet since 1995.
