Adrian Mannix
Adrian Timothy Mannix also known as "Turkey" (born 1988 in St. Finbarrs Hospital, Cork City, County Cork) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Kilworth and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team in 2009. Mannix was a star player for Cork at minor level. He won back-to-back Munster minor titles in 2005 and 2006. In 2009 he played a prominent role with Cork IT and the team reached the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-finals. At club level, Mannix was described as Kilworth's star forward. His "outstanding" form in Kilworth's march to the 2006 Munster Junior Club Hurling Championship title earned him a call-up to Cork's provisional 2007 senior county squad. He also turned in an inspirational performance in Kilworth's All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship quarter-final victory over British junior champions Granuaile. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Gerald McCarthy (hurler)
Gerald McCarthy (born 12 September 1945) is an Irish former hurling manager and player. In his playing career he was known for his intelligent anticipation, his ability to find open space and his overhead striking of the ball. A versatile player who lined out in no less than eight different positions, McCarthy made his name as an attacking midfielder and as a centre-forward. He is widely regarded to be one of the most skilful and stylish players of his generation and as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. Raised in Cork city, McCarthy came to Gaelic games prominence as a schoolboy. He joined the St Finbarr's senior team at the age of 17 in 1963 and spent the next 16 years as one of the club's key players. All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship is an annual inter-county club hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) since 2002-03 for eligible hurling clubs. Clubs qualify for the competition based on their performance in their county club championships. The final, usually held in early February, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during the winter months, and the results determine which county's team receives the cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the series. In the present format, it begins in October with provincial championships held in Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster, with the four respective champions contesting the subsequent All-Ireland series with the British champions.
