Adoration (1928 Film)
''Adoration'' is a 1928 American synchronized sound drama film with a Vitaphone musical score and sound effects. The film was released by First National Pictures, a subsidiary of Warner Bros., and directed by Frank Lloyd. It stars Billie Dove, Antonio Moreno, Emile Chautard and Lucy Doraine. The film was also issued in a shorter silent version for theatres that were not yet wired for sound. Premise Russian prince (Antonio Moreno), upon returning from the front, sees his wife (Billie Dove) in the company of a blackguard count. Prince becomes jealous, and, later, while attempting to break into the count's home, both he and the count are knocked unconscious by the mob. Prince, wife and count escape from Russia and eventually get to Paris, where wife is able to convince prince that it was her maid who went to the count's home. Frank Lloyd
Frank William George Lloyd (2 February 1886 – 10 August 1960) was a British-born American film director, actor, scriptwriter, and producer. He was among the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and was its president from 1934 to 1935. Biography Lloyd was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His mother Jane was Scottish and his father Edmund was Welsh. Lloyd started his career as a singer and stage actor in London. He is Scotland's first Academy Award winner and is unique in film history, having received three Oscar nominations in 1929 for his work on a silent film (''The Divine Lady''), a part-talkie (''Weary River'') and a full talkie ('' Drag''). He won for ''The Divine Lady''. He was nominated and won again in 1933 for his adaptation of Noël Coward's ''Cavalcade'' and received a further Best Director nomination in 1935 for perhaps his most successful film, ''Mutiny on the Bounty''. Vitaphone
Vitaphone was a sound film system used for feature films and nearly 1,000 short subjects made by Warner Bros. and its sister studio First National from 1926 to 1931. Vitaphone was the last major analog sound-on-disc system and the only one that was widely used and commercially successful. The soundtrack was not printed on the film itself, but issued separately on phonograph records. The discs, recorded at rpm (a speed first used for this system) and typically in diameter, would be played on a turntable physically coupled to the projector motor while the film was being projected. It had a frequency response of 4300 Hz. Many early talkies, such as ''The Jazz Singer'' (1927), used the Vitaphone system. The name "Vitaphone" derived from the Latin and Greek words, respectively, for "living" and "sound". Lucien Prival
Lucien Prival (July 14, 1901 – June 3, 1994) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 70 films between 1926 and 1953. Born in New York City, Prival was the son of a French mother and a Russian father. From 1912-1919 he lived with his family in Berlin. Winifred Bryson
Winifred Bryson (born Winifred Brison; December 20, 1892 – August 20, 1987) was an American actress of the stage and of silent films. Biography Winifred Bryson was born Winifred Brison on December 20, 1892, in Los Angeles, the daughter of Oliver A. Brison (1871–1922) and Annie Tilley (1870–1964). Bryson began to perform publicly in 1914, initially in the musical comedy stage, and in the drama ''Regeneration'' with Bert Lytell. Although her first film was '' Peer Gynt'' (1915), her real transition to motion pictures was in the film '' A Heart to Let'' (1921). In total, Bryson acted in 19 films, her final screen appearance being in ''Adoration'' (1928). Her career ended with the advent of talkies. She was married twice, first to actor Warner Baxter from 1918 until his death in 1951, and then to Ferdinand H. Manger. Winifred Bryson died on August 20, 1987.
