Adolf Kramer
Adolf Kramer (1871 – 10 January 1934) was a Silesian German chess master. He played in DSB Congress. He tied for 10-12th at Munich 1900 (''Hauptturnier A''), took 8th at Breslau 1912 (''Hauptturnier B''), shared 2nd at Hamburg 1921 (elim.), tied for 4-6th at Bad Oeynhausen 1922 (elim.), and took 5th at Duisburg 1929 (''Hauptturnier B''). Kramer also participated several times in Silesian Chess Congress. He shared 1st with Ertelt and beat him in play-off at Beuthen (Bytom) 1923, shared 1st with Bergmann and lost to him in play-off at Bad Salzbrunn (Szczawno Zdrój) 1924, took 4th at Bad Altheide (Polanica Zdrój) 1926 (Fritz Sämisch won), took 5th at Gleiwitz (Gliwice) 1927 ( Ludwig Schmitt and Heinz Foerder won), and took 4th at Reichenbach (Dzierżoniów) 1928 (Gottlieb Machate Gottlieb Machate (20 November 1904, in Breslau – 27 May 1974, in Stuttgart) was a German chess master. DSB Congress
The ''Deutscher Schachbund'' (DSB) was founded in Leipzig on 18 July, 1877. When the next meeting took place in the Schützenhaus on 15 July 1879, sixty-two clubs had become member of the chess federation. Hofrat Rudolf von Gottschall became Chairman and Hermann Zwanziger the General Secretary. Twelve players participated in the master tournament of Leipzig 1879. Silesian Chess Congress
The first Silesian Chess Congress was held in 1922. On 19 September 1877 the Breslau Chess Association (''Breslauer Schachverein'') was founded by Theodor von Scheve. In 1895 Görlitz and 1899 Liegnitz were meetings of mainly Silesian clubs. After the World War I Germany had to cede a part of the ''Ostprovinzen'', mainly Posen (PoznaÅ„). In 1922 the new Silesian Chess Federation (''Schlesischer Schachverband'') was founded and held congresses until 1939. Members of this federation (''Oberschlesischer Schachverband, Groß-Breslauer Schachverband'') and of the German Chess Federation in Czechoslovakia (''Deutscher Schachverband in der Tschechoslowakei'') played in each other's championships. When the Nazis came to power in 1933, Heinz Josef Foerder, being a Jew, lost his job, and moved to Riga, Latvia. Ludwig Schmitt
Ludwig Schmitt (15 April 1902 – 1980) was a German chess master. Schmitt was born in Augsburg (Bavaria) and later lived in Breslau, Prussian Silesia. He won the Silesian Chess Congress in 1927, 1933 and 1934, took 6th in 1930 ( Heinz Foerder won), and 5th place in 1939 (Erich Weinitschke won) in these events. He was a Champion of Sachsen in 1929, 1932, 1933, and of Bayern in 1953. Yosef Porat
Yosef Porat ( he, יוסף פורת; 7 June 1909, Breslau, Germany – 18 May 1996, Ramot HaShavim, Israel) was a German-Israeli chess player. He is not to be confused with an archaeologist Yosef Porath. Biography Yosef Porat was born ''Heinz Josef Foerder'' in Germany. He took the name ''Yosef Porat'' in Israel. In 1933, he lost his job after the Nazism, Nazis assumed power in Germany, and moved to Riga. In 1934 he emigrated to Mandatory Palestine, Palestine. Gottlieb Machate (20 November 1904, in Breslau – 27 May 1974, in Stuttgart) was a German chess master. He participated several times in Silesian Chess Congresses. In 1926 roku he took 2nd, behind Fritz Sämisch (off contest), in Bad Altheide (Polanica-Zdrój), and won the Silesian Champion title.
