Adenanthos Ellipticus
''Adenanthos ellipticus'', commonly known as the oval-leaf adenanthos, is a flowering plant from the family Proteaceae that is endemism, endemic to Western Australia where it is considered to be Declared Rare Flora. Description ''Adenanthos ellipticus'' grows as an open spreading shrub to 3 m (10 ft) high and 4 m (13 ft) wide. The leaves are long by wide, while the orange or reddish-pink coloured flowers are long. Taxonomy Alex George (botanist), Alex George described ''Adenanthos ellipticus'' in 1974, the species name derived from the Latin adjective ''ellipticus'' and referring to the shape of the leaves. It had been collected much earlier, in 1931 by William Blackall, W.E.Blackall. He published the name ''A. cuneata'' var. ''integra'' in 1954 but did not write a description so the name is invalid. Alex George (botanist)
Alexander Segger George (born 4 April 1939) is a Western Australian botanist. He is the authority on the plant genera ''Banksia'' and ''Dryandra''. The "bizarre" Restionaceae genus '' Alexgeorgea'' was named in his honour in 1976. Early life Alex Segger George was born in Western Australia on 4 April 1939. Career George joined the Western Australian Herbarium as a laboratory assistant at the age of twenty in 1959. He worked under Charles Gardner for a year before the latter's retirement, and partly credits him with rekindling an interest in banksias. In 1963 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia, and the following year added a botany major. Continuing at the Western Australian Herbarium as a botanist, in 1968 he was seconded as Australian Botanical Liaison Officer at the Royal Botanic Gardens in London. Australian Biological Resources Study
Australian Biological Resources Study (ABRS) is a project undertaken by Parks Australia Division of Australia's Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA). Background ABRS was founded in 1973 from the recommendations of a 1972 Senate Select Committee report on Wildlife Conservation. Its purpose is to collate from the many libraries, museums and other collections the taxonomy of Australia's estimated 2 million species of flora and fauna, including aquatic species. These represent almost 20% of the earth's biodiversity, 80% of which are unique to Australia. ABRS has undertaken active funding for taxonomic research of Australia's biodiversity and is internationally recognised for its extensive data bases and publications. Adenanthos
''Adenanthos'' is a genus of Australian native shrubs in the flowering plant family Proteaceae. Variable in habit and leaf shape, it is the only genus in the family where solitary flowers are the norm. It was discovered in 1791, and formally published by Jacques Labillardière in 1805. The type species is ''Adenanthos cuneatus'', and 33 species are recognised. The genus is placed in subfamily Proteoideae, and is held to be most closely related to several South African genera. Endemic to Australia, its centre of diversity is southwest Western Australia, where 31 species occur. The other two species occur in South Australia and western Victoria (Australia). The ''Wildlife Conservation Act 1950'' is an act of the Western Australian Parliament that provides the statute relating to conservation and legal protection of flora and fauna. ''Adenanthos venosus'' is a species of flowering plant in the family Proteaceae and is endemic to a restricted part of the southwest of Western Australia. It is an openly-branched shrub with clustered egg-shaped leaves and reddish flowers. Description ''Adenanthos venosus'' is an openly-branched shrub that typically grows to a height of and forms a lignotuber. Its leaves are mostly arranged in clusters at the ends of branches, egg-shaped, sometimes with the narrower end towards the base, mostly long, wide and sessile. ''Adenanthos cuneatus'', also known as coastal jugflower, flame bush, bridle bush and sweat bush, is a shrub of the family Proteaceae, native to the south coast of Western Australia. The French naturalist Jacques Labillardière originally described it in 1805. Within the genus ''Adenanthos'', it lies in the section ''Adenanthos'' and is most closely related to '' A. stictus''. ''A. cuneatus'' has hybridized with four other species of ''Adenanthos''. Growing to high and wide, it is erect to prostrate in habit, with wedge-shaped lobed leaves covered in fine silvery hair. Fitzgerald River National Park is a national park in the Shires of Ravensthorpe and the Jerramungup in Western Australia, southeast of Perth. The park is recognised on Australia's National Heritage List for its outstanding diversity of native plant species, including many plants which are unique to the local area.
