Mens Sana Basketball Siena, also known as simply Mens Sana, is an Italian professional basketball club based in Siena. It is a section of the sports club Polisportiva Mens Sana, founded in 1871. Under the name Montepaschi Siena, derived from sponsor Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the club was a dominant presence in the Italian Lega Basket Serie A, Serie A, winning five titles in a row from 2006–07 to 2010–11, besides two more titles later revoked by the Federazione Italiana Pallacanestro, Italian Federation, whilst also challenging for titles in Europe. After financial problems caused the club to go bankrupt in 2014, it moved down to the Serie B Basket, fourth division. In the 2015–16 season it played in the Serie A2 Basket, second division. Palasport Mens Sana
Palasport Mens Sana is an indoor sporting arena located in Via Sclavo, Siena, Italy. The seating capacity of the arena is for 6,000 people. Opened in 1976, it is currently home to the Mens Sana Basket professional basketball team. It was one of the host arenas of the EuroBasket 1979. In 2020, LED lightings are being installed to be modern, adequate and energy savings. Also, the central scoreboard is being dismantled as well. Ergin Ataman
Halil Ergin Ataman (born January 7, 1966) is a Turkish professional basketball coach. He is the current head coach of Panathinaikos of the Greek Basket League and the EuroLeague. He also coaches the Turkey men's national basketball team. During his playing career which began in 1982, he played for Eczacıbaşı and Yeşilyurt basketball teams. Coaching career Early years Ataman began his managerial career in Eczacıbaşı Youth Team followed by a stint as the coach of Efes Pilsen Youth Team. 2000–01 FIBA SuproLeague
The 2000–01 FIBA SuproLeague was the FIBA European professional club basketball Champions' Cup for the 2000–01 season. Up until that season, there was one cup, the FIBA European Champions' Cup (which is now called the EuroLeague), though in this season of 2000–01, the leading European teams split into two competitions: the FIBA SuproLeague and Euroleague Basketball Company's Euroleague 2000–01. The FIBA Korać Cup was an annual basketball club competition held by FIBA between the 1971–72 and 2001–02 seasons. It was the third-tier level club competition in European basketball, after the FIBA European Champions' Cup (later renamed the EuroLeague) and the FIBA Cup Winners' Cup (later renamed the FIBA Saporta Cup). Sandro Dell'Agnello (born 20 October 1961 in Livorno) is a former professional basketball player, and current basketball coach from Italy, who won the silver medal with his national team at the Eurobasket 1991 in Italy. Valerio Bianchini (born July 22, 1943) is an Italian professional basketball coach. He was the first coach in the history of Italian basketball who won three championship titles with three clubs (Cantù, Virtus Roma and Victoria Libertas Pesaro). His nickname is the "prophet". Cesare Pancotto (born January 8, 1955) is an Italian professional basketball coach who is an assistant coach for Napoli Basket of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A (LBA). Coaching career After a good career spent playing point guard in his native Porto San Giorgio, Pancotto began coaching in 1982 at the age of 27, taking the bench of his hometown team, U.S. Sangiorgese, at only three matches from the end of the season, gaining promotion to Serie B. In 1984 Sangiorgese, always guided by Pancotto, was promoted to A2, the Italian Second Division.
