Adam Beck Memorial
The Adam Beck Memorial is a memorial in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in honour of the founder of Ontario Hydro, Sir Adam Beck. It is located in the landscaped median of University Avenue just south of Queen Street West. Designed by sculptor Emanuel Hahn, the monument was the first place entry in a design competition for a memorial to commemorate Adam Beck. It was unveiled in 1934. History Adam Beck, respected for his efforts in developing the province of Ontario's hydroelectricity generation and transmission infrastructure and in bringing hydroelectricity into public hands, died in 1925. Four years later, a committee was appointed by Toronto City Council to determine how best to commemorate his life, venerated as Ontario's greatest public servant at the time. Ontario Veterans Memorial
Ontario Veterans' War Memorial is a granite wall located on the front south lawn of Queen's Park (Toronto), Queen's Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The wall was designed by Allan Harding MacKay and landscape architectural firm Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg. Besides images (mostly photographic) laser-etched into the granite, the wall also includes inscriptions from author Jane Urquhart and military historian Jack Granatstein on the bronze centre- and end-pieces respectively. Sir Adam Beck Hydroelectric Generating Stations are two hydroelectric generating stations in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Sir Adam Beck Generating Station I, Sir Adam Beck Generating Station II and the Sir Adam Beck Pump Generating Station are all owned by Ontario Power Generation. Following the development of several smaller generating stations around Niagara Falls in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Province of Ontario authorized the construction of the first major publicly owned generating station in the province. William James Stewart
William James Stewart (February 13, 1889 – September 18, 1969) was a Canadian politician. He was also a member of the Orange Order in Canada.
